CA: GOVERNOR VETOES ANTI-GUN BILLS
CALIFORNIA LEGISLATIVE UPDATE ^ | 6/29/06 | NRA Member's Councils of California

Posted on 09/30/2006 11:24:50 PM PDT by dbandit

AB2714 (TORRICO) INTERNET/MAIL ORDER AMMUNITION SALES ID REQUIREMENT
This bill would provide that no ammunition or reloaded ammunition could be delivered via the INTERNET/Mail order pursuant to a retail transaction unless the purchaser personally presents clear evidence of his or her identity and age to the seller of the ammunition. This bill also repeals a provision of current state preemption law that restricts local governments from regulating the sale of ammunition.

SB 59 (LOWENTHAL) HANDGUN LOSS OR THEFT REPORTING
This bill would make it an infraction for any person whose handgun is stolen or irretrievably lost to fail, within 5 working days after his or her discovery or knowledge of, or within 5 working days after the date he or she should reasonably have known of, the theft of loss, to report the theft or loss to a local law enforcement agency of the jurisdiction in which the theft or loss occurred or in which the person resides. This bill also repeals a provision of current state preemption law that restricts local governments from creating a patchwork of laws regarding reporting lost or stolen firearms.

These two got vetoed. Two decent ones signed. AB 2111 CONSUMER PROTECTION and SB 1239 PRIVACY PROTECTION

Been watching the calnra site the last week or two waiting for the Gov to process these among the literally hundreds of outstanding bills. Davis had a habit of doing nothing so they became law without his signature so he could play both sides since he didn't veto but didn't actively support either. The slippery slope on this coast is considerably shallower than it used to be.

Turning in for the night.

Good for Arnold. These idiotic bills were unenforceable on their faces. For example:

This bill would make it an infraction for any person whose handgun is stolen or irretrievably lost to fail, within 5 working days after his or her discovery or knowledge of, or within 5 working days after the date he or she should reasonably have known of, the theft of loss, to report the theft or loss to a local law enforcement agency

Who determines " reasonably have known"? The stupidity of this phrasing would be astounding, except this is the California legislature so it's "normal".

Nice of him to toss the RKBA inmates of Kalifornia these small bones.
Too bad he approved AB-50 last year.

I guess this is his version of "legislative balance".

Wouldn't the banning of internet sales be an unconstitutional limit on interstate commerce anyway? You can't show an id in person from another state... well unless you're 1 foot over the border.

CA wanted to ban internet sales. PERIOD. This was their "clever" way of doing it.

I think some states banned cigarette sales over the internet.

Hey, I just realized it's October now.
September went out with a bang, thanks to Arnold.

"Davis had a habit..."

Don't you mean the Governator (Arnold)?

A provision I think the Bay Area wanted... didn't they attempt to ban ammunition sales?

The gun banners never give up. The state constitution needs to be amended to protect the RKBA from the State Legislature's rapacious leftists.
