You're pretty much spot on. And it's rather depressing when you think about it. Our political leadership doesn't have sufficient intestinal fortitude to tell the opposition to take a long walk off a short pier on something like this.
This isn't a situation where there's some big nagging question about what is the "right" thing is to do. A six year old could tell you that the law needs to be enforced lest it be rendered irrelevant. I'm frankly sick of the hand-wringing and paucity of leadership in this regard. We have prosecutors for a reason. So prosecute for pity's sake.
One semantic point about your post. You lumped in "democrats" with leakers, squeakers, and other forms of traitorous scum. While I recognize that this is a conservative website, Republican does not necessarily equal conservative, and Democrat does not necessarily equal seditious.
