The United States and its allies will fail in the so-called "war on terror" without the support of Pakistan and its intelligence service, Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf said Saturday, September 30.
"You will be brought down to your knees if Pakistan doesn't co-operate with you. That is all that I would like to say. Pakistan is the main ally. If we were not with you, you would not manage anything. Let that be clear," he said.
"And if the ISI (Inter Services Intelligence) is not with you, you will fail. Let that be very clear also. Remember my words: if the ISI is not with you and Pakistan is not with you will lose in Afghanistan."
Musharraf recorded the interview after talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in London on Thursday, September 28.
In a collection of memoirs entitled "In the Line of Fire," Musharraf further said that US intelligence has paid Pakistan millions of dollars for handing over Al-Qaeda suspects it has captured.
"We have captured 689 and handed over 369 to the United States. We have earned bounties totalling millions of dollars," Musharraf says in his book, which was released on Monday.
"Those who habitually accuse us of 'not doing enough' in the war on terror should simply ask the CIA how much prize money it has paid to the government of Pakistan," he says, without specifying where the money came from.

Well I think Bush has expressed his thanks for Pakistan's help many, many times but the truth is Pakistan could do more. The reason it doesn't is because of their internal politics. We just have to work with them and work around them.
dirty diaper syndrome
Good Grief...
I stop reading right there.
The journalist has put his/her little twist on things. He/she knows darn well it was one individual Armitage who reportedly made the comment yet the blame is given by the reporter to the whole US.
They are tricky...these reporters.
[..."If we were not with you, you would not manage anything. Let that be clear," he (Mushareff) said."...]
So I wonder what set him off.
This is Islamofascist spin. Musharraf just had dinner with Bush a few days ago and spent time with him in TX.
At any time the US could turn the entire Muslim population in both Afghanistan and Pakistan into dust--remember that.
This is a big fat nothing. Not to worry, the shy isn`t going to fall.
And your sh*thole of a country can be turned into a sandbox in an hour.
He is between a rock and a hard place. I expect this is intended for internal consumption. If he got any closer to the U.S. he would probably be assassinated. Indeed, I'm sure there are many in Pakistan who would take pleasure in doing so.
They use their dishonesty in sly, crafty and diabolical ways to twist the minds of millions of people who are not-so-smart.
I can't stand them.
Mr. Mussharaf, your arrogance does at least match your foolishness in making such remarks.
Yup. Sounds like a threat to me, too.
Pakistan is lost to us as an ally. They have ceeded ALL their Taliban/Al Qaeda infested territories to the terrorists as of last week. Pakistan CANNOT control the terrorists in their midst and Mushie is on borrowed time.
Paksitan will fall to Islamism before the next year is done... if not sooner and we cannot do a thing to help them.
Then we will have an entire country open to terrorist training camps and the like and they will be in control of nuclear bombs.
We should be wiser to such tactics by now, but many still swallow the MSM tricks.
Cherry picking of quotes is one of the MSM's more effective ways of propogandizing their cause.
