It was nearly 8:00 am Wednesday, September 27, 2006 as I arrived at 2302 E. Speedway in Tucson, Arizona where the Military Recruiting Center is located. "Anti-war" activists (nicknamed "moonbats") have been showing up for at least five years at this time and place to display flag-draped coffins, death count signs, and accusations of torture to "support the troops to bring them home." The fact that military troops do not make foreign policy is not a deterrent to the activists, and some have even admitted that their aim is reduce military recruitment, even though such activities are against the law during wartime.
Being a little late, I missed the exciting part of the day but several Pro-Americans filled me in. A liberal had appeared holding a very large sign with "Why? and "What Leadership?" on it. I recognized that description of a sign I saw years ago at a rally for troops at Reid Park. I was standing across the street from him with my first "Say No To Communism" sign then. "Have whatever kind of day you people have!" he called out as he left after that protest.
This day the sign holder appeared to be on drugs according to most accounts.
"He was crazed looking," declared one Pro-American.
"You should have seen those eyes. Wild! And his hands were shaking," reported another.
"He was all hyped up," said a third troops (and their mission) supporter.
The violent peacenik may have been reading internet left wing propaganda which states that Pro-Americans at this rally / protest often push and shove the "anti-war" people while hitting them with their signs and flags. They don't actually do that although they sometimes get a little close to moonbat signs when they mix in with the group. I theorize the moonbat may have wanted a little revenge or something similar because he raged down the sidewalk hitting people with his sign and pushing them aggressively. The police were called and he had already fled by the time I got there. But his license plate was reported.
"Fighter guy," a well-known moonbat, was there with his Marine sign. Although he claims to be an "ex-Marine," none of the Pro-Americans believe him after Marine veterans questioned him about his service. As proof he offered a dog tag, however, those can be obtained many places. "Fighter guy" received his nickname after challenging everyone to fistfights; however, after someone called him on it he quit doing that.
"Veterans for Peace" lady was across the street; she avoids questions about military service because she "doesn't want to talk about it," but claimed through a third party she is retired from the Air Force. In my opinion, we are all citizens and veteran status doesn't make much difference in a political discussion - unless someone makes an issue of it by sayi 5a8 ng their military experience is essential to their position. In that case, questions to validate service are legitimate, especially in the light of so many "anti-war" activists who have faked military service.
A pony tailed man was standing with Fighter Guy displaying a large cardboard box material sign crudely lettered with a black marker. Grey duct-tape had been haphazardly fastened here and there for no apparent reason. "Support Troops" and "Impeach Bush" were the text. But what troops? The Swiss Navy? Algerian Secret Police? Readers had to guess. I stayed a short distance past those two most of the time with my "Say No To Communism" backed with "Don't Believe Left Wing Propaganda and Lies" counter-sign.
It is essential in wartime to not be a fair weather supporter, to America, our troops or the newly formed Iraqi nation. As American citizens it's our duty to help our nation and others in times of need. Let's write letters to the news media and Congress advocating continued support of Iraqi freedom. Gather facts to refute liberal media "anti-war" propaganda then print and distribute these facts. Lets tell our troops we support them however we can. It's time to stand up for what's right in spite of "bad weather." It's time to stand up for America!

Here are some more facts about this Freep:
1. FReepers attending were \/\/ayne and Lurker Pat.
2. Although there were only five moonbats at this time, recently they had more.
3. The Pro-American side has lots of rotating people, but one doughty Marine veteran, Frank, is especially faithful. After talking to a newly minted 600 Marine who had come back to visit his recruiters, Frank declared that this young man would soon rise to the top in the Marine Corp. The young Marine confirmed he was dedicated to a career in the Marines.
4. The pony-tailed moonbat began to get aggressive with US Army Airborne Ranger veteran Michael Lucero (holding the sign "Remember: They still want to kill you" in the photos above) but Fighter Guy pulled him back. "Don't mess with him!" the former fist fight challenger cautioned. Lucero confimed to cardboard box material sign holder that he was not afraid of any liberal. He also told me later that he is working on controlling his language when challenging moonbats and indeed was mostly successful this time. Lucero is a usually a very cheerful and Christian guy that you would love to have for a neighbor, but he lost his son Josh at Fallujah when the Marine Lance Corporal blocked a grenade with his own body, saving two buddies. This was in the action where Code Pink had facilitated a $600,000 donation to the "other side." Is it anyone wonder he might get upset with moonbats?
5. The Pro-American side received many honks and shouts of support for the troops as usual, although I noticed a sour-faced driver displaying a single digit in slang fashion as she drove by.
6. Pony tail guy sang "God Bless America" and "Star Spangled Banner" with me but didn't know all the words to the military theme songs. When I sing the Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force and Coast Guard songs while standing next to moonbats I feel like I am sending a certain message, and besides, it's a lot of fun!
Great post Wayne. Thanks for the pictures and your stories throughout the day. You guys have made America proud.
Thanks for the report, \/\/ayne. I'm a little bit jealous though. You guys always have nice weather. Thanks for being out there!
pinging everyone to another long term FReep. \/\/ayne and FReepers have been out here for a long time. \/\/ayne, just how long has it been?
\/\/ayne is also a wizard when it comes to photoshopping. He is a regular on the Olney threads.
\/\/ayne - Thanks for your continued support of the troops and FReeping of the moonbats. I believe you said 1 FReeper is worth a 100 moonbats. From the moonbats point of view, it does seem like you have them out numbered.
Great strategy about moving around. It must have looked like you had them surrounded.
[Mr] T
Great, wonderful work by true patriots!! God bless all Freepers. BTW, this week in Columbia, SC is First Wednesday in front of the State House, where we counterdemonstrate the local `aristocracy of conscience' crowd.
It's really neat reading that Ranger Lucero (rest in peace his brave son) was right there to confront "fighter guy", who is nothing but a yellow coward and a liar.
God bless you guys!
