I'm very happy about the fence.
But you can't deny the GOP has really taken it on the chin this week... so I ask, WHY NOW? Why not 5 years ago when a fence would have been a 95% approval issue after 9/11?
Why? Are you so sacred because of the Florida gay congressman who resigned today? So what, what is the worst thing it will happen, lose his seat for a democrat, and then what. The democrats are still far from controlling the House, do not underestimate how difficult for them to win 15 seats to get a majority in the House, it is very difficult.
What you talkin' 'bout, Willis? This has been an awesome week - conservatives showed muscle in pushing through the detainee rules and the good parts of immigration reform - gas prices have plummeted and the DOW is flirting with all time high - the declassified NIE report pretty much nuked the MSM/DEM spin efforts on the leaked pieces - Al Qaeda has released tapes indistinguishable from Democratic campaign commercials - and W seems to be in a kick-a$$ mood - all in all, one of the most exciting weeks I can recall in years.
The WH was pushing for a comprehensive immigration bill including a guest worker program. The Senate [the Reps voted against it 32-23] passed the WH/Dem bill [Martinez/Hagel] and was against an enforcement first bill similar to the one passed in the House. It was the Senate Dems and RINOs who blinked. The Conservatives in the House and Senate won. Such a fence bill would not have been introduced immediately after 9/11.
I can deny it because your claim is a load of bull.
so I ask, WHY NOW?
Gee, maybe because two solid years of selling the anti-illegal-immgration position to the American people has produced a large mandate for enforcement?
