I was watching the vote on CSPAN and could not believe how many Dims were voting for the bill. There must be an election coming up in the near future. LOL

I hope that the Senate doesn't think that, in passing this, that they have actually solved the problem. I also hope that they don't think that the voters will have thought they have solved the problem.
While a large percentage, probably a majority, of those illegally in the US crossed the southern border, there are still other ways to get in. Also, many of those who are here illegally (from just about every country on earth) were admitted legally on tourist or other temporary visas. Until we have legislation (and enforcement) to end the 'anchor baby' policy, prosecute employers, and create penalties for being in the country illegally, the illegal alien problem will not end.

Well, we're definitely winning.
But, that's no excuse for any of us to let up on the pressure one bit. There is still the little matter of getting it built, PLUS the consideration that they are only building on approximately one third of the southern border at best...plus INTERIOR ENFORCEMENT.
And, of course, stopping them from legalizing twenty or thirty million gatecrashers....

But he was unable to marshal support for it in the face of opposition from a solid group of House Republicans who pushed for tougher enforcement and border measures instead. God Bless them!
I'd like to hear a statement from J.D. or Sessions to be sure the amnesty seekers didn't sneak something into this and I still await the funding approval, but I'm issuing a cautionary "WooHoo" for the moment.

Fair enough: MEXICO'S IMMIGRATION LAWS ARE SO RACIST AGAINST US GRINGOS, AFTER ALL: HTTP://www.directory.com.mx/immigration Meanwhile, the wall-funding news is also covered here: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4225690.html 700 miles: not a bad precedent for eventually working on making the other 2/3's of our shared border far less porous as well. Hopefully Bush won't veto it due to the lack of his pet amnesty program... Now Mexico had better address its problems because it can no longer dump them into our laps as easily...

Good, it's a reasonable start.

I believe it was Tony Snow that said any measure that included tougher border enforcement MUST include a guest worker program.
Tony was the one, if I correctly remember, who had even made this suggestion as policy within a week or two of arriving at his new job.
Tony, I respect so much about you, but YOU ARE FREAKING WRONG!
EAT THIS!

This is a good start but I'm still voting based on which candidates DOES NOT support Amnesty. Any republican who wants amnesty will not get my vote. The fence is a good start.

Geez,
A lot of people on this thread don't know how to win.
First of all, if they take some land to build this wall, I am sure that landowners won't mind a whole bunch, as the alternative is having these guys running through their property and often committing crimes (and nasty crimes at that).
Second, yes, it does cost some money to build a wall. But it also costs money to support 12,000,000 or so illegals. And in Texas, it set off a firestorm this week when one of those illegals decided to kill a very popular Houston cop. On top of that, where would these alleged "fiscal conservatives" rather spend their money, PBS. Come on, get real, it is the job of our government to secure our borders, first and foremost. PBS can wait.
Third, yes a 51' ladder will get you to the top of a 50 foot wall. But have you ever climbed a 51 foot ladder to get over a wall - not fun, especially when you have to find your way down on the other side. The point being that it is not fun climbing a ladder when you may not know what's on the other side (aside from a second wall). Yes, some people will get past, but a whole lot of people, including women 8 months pregnant, might just decide that it's not worth it.
Forth, while a 700 mile fence does not cover the entire southern border, it will, if strategically located (as I'm sure the House bill will do), make it MUCH more difficult to cross. Yes, you can get around the wall - maybe 50 miles from nowhere in New Mexico or Arizona - but then what? You have a long, long, way to go before reaching civilization. Yes, Mexicans may die on the way, and that is truly tragic, as most of them are only coming here to help their families back home - but it's a tradeoff that they make - not us. They will know of the wall and the risk.
SO GROW UP!!!
I'm still waiting to actually see the wall built - as I'm skeptical that some Congress or some Judge will stop it - but we do have to start somewhere.

Great week for the GOP. RATS fell flat on their face launching their propaganda war this week. Fallout from Blozo still reverberating, and the only ones truly in denial about the war are DUmmie crats.
