WASHINGTON - Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., submitted a letter of resignation from Congress on Friday in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former male page, according to a congressional official.
Foley, 52, had been considered a shoo-in for re-election until the e-mails surfaced in recent days.
Campaign aides had previously acknowledged that the Republican congressman e-mailed the former Capitol page five times, but had said there was nothing inappropriate about the exchange. The page was 16 at the time of the e-mail correspondence.
Foley's election opponent, Democrat Tim Mahoney, has called for an investigation.

Well I wish I could be as hopeful on this district. We have lost it. The only thing we can do according to the news is submit a write in. I chalking this one in the loss column
Exactly. And GOP is partly to blame for the fact murderers like Ted Kennedy are treated with respect. We all have allowed the dems to become a snake pit without repercussions.
Being gay wasn't going to keep him from getting elected. But when the magic words "sixteen-year-old page" showed up? His base would dry up like a puddle in the desert.
The original stories on this sounded pretty innocent--him emailing the page asking when his birthday was and what he wanted for it, asking for a picture, stuff like that. Slightly odd, but nothing that rises to resigning over. There's got to be more to this, probably a LOT more.

I am surprised, I really did not think there was much to this story. Now it makes me think that perhaps there is more in those emails that was not released that is far more suspect than asking about a birthday and a photo. Wonder if anyone has any more of the emails published?
.....well Barney may be gay..but haven't heard he was consorting with boys.....and Clinton at least molested a woman....as immoral as both of them are.....there is something much sicker about flirting with young men or boys.....God....talk about fu**ing up your life for a little thrill......he will never live this down for sure..
......and Kennedy..well, you have to kill at least 2 people to get into trouble.....the first one is a pass....

Bad, bad, bad choice of words.
It's a good thing he didn't run for and win the Republican nomination for the senate seat held by Bill Nelson this year. He had expressed an interest last year in running for that seat.

This difference is the Republicans will run the guy out of town while the Democrats will circle the wagons and fight tooth and nail for him.
What's that old capitol hill maxim? "Never get caught in bed with a live boy or a dead girl."
I guess he doesn't like "Bush" all that much.
I go to extremes to recognize there can be innocent explanations for things. But especially now that he has resigned, a 52 year old man asking a 16 year old boy for pictures is awfully suspicious.
Or he could have won the election, lose an investigation, then have to register as a sex offender. Who knows what lurks in this guy's closet.
He can hang out with McGreevey at the rest areas of I-95
...Foley likes em younger then McGreevey it appears
He wouldn't have resigned if it wasn't true. End of story.
