While I respect his position, I think he should have made his case even more pronounced - He should have run some classics like Breakfast at Tiffany's, Casablanca - even My Fair Lady!! Anything from the 30s to around the early 70s would be better than the current dreck posing as Hollwierd's latest fare.

My cynical side says they're doing some renovations at this movie theater that require it to close for a couple of weeks, and this is the owner's way of doing it in a manner that generates a lot of publicity.

Getting old classics are not as easy as you might think. The main problems are that the are not a lot of copies films, if they do have copies the the film quality has deteriorated (scratches, too many splices, etc), if you find the films they are very expensive and if you do get you hands on a good, inexpensive copy you need to make sure your projector can actually run the movie. Also the insurance on loaning these types of movies is not cheap, and I sure would not want to be the guy who destroyed a good print of Casablanca.

This does not take into consideration, what a previous poster stated that many movie theaters have deals with the studios.

And just how he is going to do that? Do you think he these movies just sitting around in their big reel cannisters? He can't run down to the local Blockbuster and pick up My Fair Lady...why he would be direct violation of that little FBI warning we all fast forward through (when you can). And if he is going to show the movie for free to get around that...then what? Lose money because he has to pay for electricity and wages?
