Sacrificing the National Interest

The New York Times has again selectively leaked sensitive national security information, this time cherry picking an April National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) report to support the left's template that our attack on Iraq has spawned more terrorism. In response, President Bush declassified other portions of the report to complete the picture.

If anything, on balance the report emphasizes how critical Iraq is to our ultimate victory in the war on terror. But how dare Bush defend himself?

Caught crying wolf again, Democrats have pulled a familiar trick out of their playbooks. They are demanding Bush declassify the entire document, knowing he cannot afford to comply and reveal secrets to the enemy, to create the false impression that he has something to hide. In the meantime, the national interest be damned.

Democrats pulled the same kind of stunt during Miguel Estrada's Senate confirmation hearings for the appellate bench. As one of their bogus excuses for filibustering Estrada seven times, they said the White House was not forthcoming enough about Estrada's record. So they demanded the release of intra-office memoranda Estrada had written from 1992 to 1997 as assistant solicitor general.

This is a very well written article. Why can't republicans simply state facts like this, instead of going all mush-mouthed?

Are these people at NYT so arrogant to the point of blindness that they couldn't realize that the President has the power to declassify the ENTIRE REPORT!!?

And when he did, the entire truth emerges.

But for these coercive utopians, truth is only that which serves the revolution.

True under Lenin, but no more. Eat s@#$ and die, Sulzberger!

The Republicans by and large are part of the problem.

Bush could stop this in a second if he wanted. Issue an EO that determines that leaking top secret intel is and act of treason, try the leaker accordingly, and if found guilty sentence them under the present statuates that cover treasonous acts-death by firing squad. The bastards would either quit or stop leaking. Either way the leaks end.

Agree.
I hated Carter with a passion that exists to this day, but I did not "leak" classified information in a futile attempt to destroy him politically.
We voted his worthless hide out of office!
By a landslide.
The MSM does not have "special" rights, above those granted to every citizen.Nor to political parties.
They do not have the expectation of private communications protection granted to spouses, physicians, lawyers and spiritual leaders.
Charge them with treason and be done with it.
Throw them into a cell next to Pollard and let them bleat endlessly about the unfairness of the rule of law.
Either do it now, or accept that anarchy now reins supreme.
And if it is anarchy, well, I am prepared to deal with that.
But I will not be constrained by any useless "rules of law" while doing so.

According to Rush - all the members of the "intel committees" of both the House and Senate HAVE THE FULL COPIES OF THE DOCUMENT.

If the whining babies want to see the whole report - it's available to them already.

I thought this was yet another thread about why conservatives aren't going to vote GOP in November!

Well .. the whining babies I was talking about are the dems who have been all over the TV demanding the WHOLE report be released.

They can't be that ignorant they don't know it has already been released. It's just that the people who got it kept it to themselves because it's A SECRET!!
