Prague enlists Czechs in US in campaign to win visa-free status
The Czech Republic has begun a campaign calling on Czechs in the United States to lobby the US government to grant the country visa-free status. Hundreds of thousands of Czechs and people who have connections with the Czech Republic received letters from the country's embassy in Washington calling on them to lobby their congressmen and women on the issue.
Visa Free states should be given to the Poland first, but the czechs (as long as their czechs) should be on the list to receive such treatment.
Best way to keep allies in the region.
I mean, what if the Czeck gov't instead had used public funds to publish huge numbers of comic books giving all kind of advice to it's citizens on how to INVADE the US --routes to follow, specific items to take, rights they should expect, what they should do if caught...?
Imagine the outrage.
Then then again, you don't really HAVE to IMAGINE it, now do you?
Let's just offer those Eastern European countries the right to vote to become US States. They seem like they'd be more conservative than the rest of Europe.
My wife and I were in Prague last spring. We loved it. One night, my wife and I went out for dinner, while we were in Prague, and we landed right in the middle of a huge anti-Castro/Free Cuba rally.
I did a search under Prague and Cuba, and I found that there is a significant diplomatic confrontation going on between Prague and Havana over Prague's criticism of the EU's cozy relationship with Castro. It seems that the Czechs are still smarting from oppression they suffered under the Soviets, while Western Europe was cozying up to those same Soviets.
I've heard Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and yes, I'd heard about their tiff w/Cuba too. Why not offer those countries an alternative to the socialist EU? We could use the extra pro-freedom voters.
Some of the things I noticed in Prague that were indicative of the spirit of freedom and prosperity:
Everyone smokes
There is a tobacco counter in one of the department stores selling cigarettes, cigars, pipes, tobacco, and hash pipes.
Everyone has a nice car and a cell phone
Everyone has a fancy pedigreed dog
There are restaurants of all types - Mexican, Italian, Asian, Indian, etc. In fact, we were hard pressed to find a Czech restaurant.
Every building was sprouting satellite dishes.
I lived in the Czech Republic for over 7 years. They certainly deserve visa-free status. For the most part, they have little to no desire to move away from their country, so we don't need to worry about a flood of Czechs coming over and staying here. There's no real reason to force them to have visas, especially if we allow Poles in visa-free.
You can be happy that this issue was not picked up by the European Union so far. If Europe would have a concerted policy on immigration matters, Americans could find out soon that it is not funny to wait hours and hours in front of consulates and to pay expensive fees just to get a ridicolous chop into their pass if they want to visit Prague, Warsaw, Madrid, Rome, London, Berlin or Paris. To bully someone also goes the other way around. The eastern Europeans just have not understood so far that they have a quite powerful instrument in their hands to put pressure on the US administration because of this.
Besides of that idiotic visa crap - Although I understand that your country has a interest to keep illegal immigrants out of its boarders you would be well advised to let some of those well educated and powerful young people from eastern Europe into your country if they really want to come. Your birth rates are falling since a long time and in a few years you will find yourself in the same decline of population like old and new Europe.

Although it is not political correct to speak it out it is also a fact, that the underprivileged people usually get more kids than those who care for education and future. Therefore: In dubio pro libertate!
In hoc signo vinces? Ave America! Lucrifacturi te salutant!
Just a joke. Do not be alarmed. I do not want to immigrate to your country. ;)
