September 27, 2006 Good News for George Allen Good news (for a change) for George Allen in his Virginia Senate race. In the first poll in a couple of weeks, a new poll by SurveyUSA for WUSA-TV Washington DC and WDBJ-TV Roanoke gives Allen a five-point lead, 49% - 44%. All things considered this has to be seen as good news for the Allen campaign given the recent news coverage. The poll was taken Sunday - Tuesday while the latest scuttlebutt over accusations that he used the N-word in the 1970's was hitting in the media. Each individual day's polling was all over the place so it is clear there is a tremendous amount of volatility in this race.
But given the news flow for Allen the past month, the fact that Webb has actually lost ground from SurveyUSA's poll taken August 18-20 is not great news for his ultimate prospects in November. Webb can't expect the news flow/press coverage to continue to be this favorable from his point of view from here until the election, especially with Allen having the money to get his message up on air to counter a Washington media that is overwhelmingly hostile to his candidacy. I don't think the Allen people can breath easy though, this is only one poll and I'll be interested to see where some more polling pegs this race
Perhaps the Democrats' accusations of Allen using the "N word"
has awakened the Reagan Democrats in rural Virginia. LOL!
Rats overplayed their hands with this "N" word allegation and now everyone knows the Rats are playing the race card for political purposes.
They're doing the same thing they did to John Ashcroft. He's been in public service for YEARS and all of a sudden they try to demonize him.
It won't work.
Now Mr. Webb is dealing with his own "N" word story! Hah!
The Rats ALWAYS overplay their hand and come off looking like totals buffoons in doing so.
Rumor has it that a former 3rd grade classmate of Allen's will go public with an accusation of Allen using the term "doody-head."

If he can emerge from this baptism of fire, he will be tempered and ready for the run for the Presidency. (Lord knows he would get more of it as a candidate for the White House and as an occupant).
I say to the liberals, hey, whatever, bring it on!
That's right. And what too few folks understand is that Southerners are so tired of this mantra that the Left's ploy against Allen will actually backfire. Contrary to the prevailing view of most liberals, we are not racist troglodytes, and therefore get pretty irritated by the assertion.
Did you notice a pattern of reversing the pro dim polls of earlier this week? This is just one poll that is great for Conservatives. Several more have been announced this morning!

Webb is positively Nixonian: Accuse your opponent of some loathsome act or behavior, and watch while he spends the rest of the campaign defending himself.
It especially works well when the media is complicit, as it is in this race.
Hence, Webb used anti-Semitic campaign literature in the primary, and has tried to make hay of the fact that Allen's mother was Jewish, while at the same time portraying Allen himself as being anti-Semitic for his reaction to the below the belt hit. Then Webb's people throw out this bogus claim that Allen uses the N-word.
What it all boils down to is whether the VA voters are smart enough to figure out what's happening, and stick it to Webb for trying to pull a Richard Nixon.
Reported this morning that Webb used to drive around Watts in L.A., pointing fake guns at blacks and calling them n*****. Not good. Plus, Webb has not come out and denied his use of the slur while Allen has. If the Dems want to play who said what when 30+ years ago, it would be interesting to hear what members of Webb's platoon has to say about their LT.

Actually, if they had stopped at just that, I think they would have gotten a lot more traction. Combined with the deer head story was just too much. A story like that - if true - would not only make the rounds by blacks in Louisa County but whites would have picked up on it as well.
