Americas politicians should all be tarred and feathered at the least. They have sold us out and it is going to get much worse. The border is becoming no mans land.

No big deal.

Dunno why they want air superiority fighters. They're useless again the US (except as a live target exercise), and they don't have anyone else nearby to fight.

The helicopters are a good idea though. They have lots of their own people up in arms against the (incredibly corrupt) Mexican Government.

If the Mexi's drive these the same way they drive cars here in Florida .... well, the fleet should be pretty much gone in a week or less.

Brazil's military is pretty bland for a country which considers itself as a heavyweight & the Mexicans are reportedly looking out for maritime surveillance jets(there were articles on FR about them looking at SU-27s).The Mig-29OVT/Mig-35 is a pretty capable & affordable system for them.

Venezuela bought 24 Russian Su-30MK Flanker-C air superiority fighters for $1.5 billion.

If I put the decimal point in the right place thats $62 million a copy. They will look good in the independence day flyovers in the capitol city.

A century ago Vickers and other arms merchants sold battleships to South American dictators. High status but minimal utility. The pattern seems to be repeating. Kept the admirals and generals happy though.

In arms deals, sales mean jobs domestically and lower unit costs for your own military. It also involves training and supply of spare parts. The fact that Mexico and Brazil are buying Russian weapons systems is not a good thing, military capabilities aside. We are not going to be fighting Brazil or Mexico.

They can buy all they want but it doesn't mean they can fly them. Cuba can barely keep their "advanced fighters" in the air.

I thought the Mig 29 was an MRF and matches up with the F-16. But I have been wrong before.

From what Ive read, the SU-30 MK variants have a max price of about 45-50 million a piece. The best of the lot,the Indian MKI variants are rated at about 55 million a piece.I think you need to add in the costs of training, logistics & add-on systems given that Venezuela hasn't operated Russian systems.

Damned messicans will probably pile 6 or 7 mechanics into the cockpit along with the pilot... leave the canopy open and weave down the damned runway at 45 mph...with half the nav lights broken.......blasting Mariachi music the whole way. Not a big threat....really.

I wonder if the Russian selling point is "hey, at this year's air show our planes didn't crash like usual."
