Earlier this month, a scant 400 people marched in the Los Angeles Labor Day demonstration in support of illegal immigrants, a dramatic decline compared to the 400,000 who attempted to bring downtown Los Angeles to a halt in May. Still, this didnt keep Cardinal Roger Mahoney from joining in and proclaiming to tell parishioners at the opulent Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles that without this immigrant population, this state would be bankrupt.
To the contrary, Mahoney has it backwards. Unless this illegal immigrant invasion is stopped right now, the state of California is certain to go bankrupt, and soon.
While writing our new book, Minutemen: The Battle to Secure Americas Borders, we attempted to interview Mahoney. Sadly he refused our request. We were able to speak with Kevin Appleby, director of migration and refugee policy for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, D.C. Mr. Appleby asserted to us that the churchs solution is different from the Minutemens solution, which he characterized as to build a wall and seal the border. Instead, Appleby argued in support of a guest worker program, which he refused to categorize as an amnesty.
When pressed, Appleby shifted ground, arguing that the United States has a moral obligation not to its own citizens, but to open our borders to Mexicans who want to live and work here. With the U.S. being the greatest economic power in the world, he explained to us, we would have some obligation to help Mexico solve their problem of poverty. He then insisted that legalizing Mexican here illegally would allow the church to make sure they are hired at or above minimum wage, with benefits.

"Mahoney is a man of God and deserves our respect."
Sorry Kelly.
Mahoney has done a great deal of damage to the Catholic faith,
the traditions of which he does not appear to practice or support.
While I respect his office of bishop, I cannot respect him personally.
I don't think I am the Lone Ranger on this issue.
ya know if you're gonna do nothing but smear a Catholic priests; take your BS elsewhere.
The subject is illegal immigration.
gezzzzzz you anti-Catholics need to start your own thread so you can just bash Catholics & the Church all day! LOL
I personally know a cardinal of the Church so I can tell you they are not all deserving of blank-check respect. I don't know this one, so I'll just hope he is a better priest than he is a patriot.
Not to mention the fact that he moved predator priests around instead of turning them in.
As you said, he did a lot of damage to the Catholic Church.
again, the subject is illegal immigration
if you want to start a thread about the Catholic Church, Catholicism & Catholics feel free to do so.
gezzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I am not alone in doubting his veracity in that regard. He is showing himself more and more as a political/economic figure and not a religious one.
Will the fact that I know some Catholics, or one of my best friends is a Catholic do?
My point is, were the good Cardinal leader of my faith, I'd see to it that he and all others of his ilk, were either punished or better yet, sent packing.
Leaders are supposed to lead, not support an illegal invasion of America!
I am sorry -- I am a new Catholic, very orthodox, behind the Pope all the way. I personally believe that Mahoney is anything but. And this is pretty common knowledge.
I believe you misunderstood my post.
Well one can, as I do, respectfully disagree with Mahoney's position on illegal immigration without smearing the man as some have done on this thread.
gezzzzzzzz...
I am still waiting for the Pope to apologize to the victims of the degenerate priests with the same gusto as he did the head-cutters
Boy, am I angry? YOU BET!... i will do my best not to let people forget what they did, and rather did not do!
and your post has what to do with illegal immigration?
Well spank my fanny Thread Nanny! You brought it up, not me. Read the context of your own opening post.
buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The Cardinal being a cardinal means nothing to me. As you can tell. The Cardinal is an American citizen and subject to our laws. The was a big sh!tstorm called the Reformation a couple hundred years ago - and one of the issues was that clergy wasn't subject to civil law. We fixed that, and I for one don't want to go back to having clergy be above the law.
It's all about money and power for him.
"The Cardinal being a cardinal means nothing to me?"
that's obvious
now can we get back to the subject of the thread
ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
you may disagree with Mahoney's position but I think we can all do it in a civil manner without calling the man every name in the book but a Catholic priest!
gezzzzzzzzzzzz...
:) believe me, it has a lot with anything, in this case Illegal Immigration, or the children of the world or anything. The left is using the CC - well no, the CC is the Left actually - to use their weight to let Illegal Immigrants in this country. My job is to remind people that the CC, lost their high moral ground and therefore their ability to try (force?) to pressure our legislators to allow the status quo (all illegals welcome).
I'm not your "nanny", genius and if and when you have the stones to insult me to my face; you be sure and let me know.
I won't be holding my breath.
"You brought it up, not me. Read the context of your own opening post?"
If you actually READ the article, you would know that my first post were not my words but words from the article.
That's why the words are in quotations, genius. LOL
Now take your insults elsewhere, they are neither appreciated or needed.
gezzzzzzzz....
And while we're at it, let's fence PHONEY Mahony within the walls of his heretical travesty, the Taj Mahony...and not let him out!
"...the CC is the Left actually..."
Not really. Look at how many Catholics voted for Bush.
Catholics, especially church going Catholics, are and have been drifting away from the democrats for quite awhile. This is despite the efforts of the many liberal bishops with which we are presently cursed.
A more accurate statement might be ...the Catholic Bishops Conference is the Left actually...
Yes, many of these bishops have pushed the leftest viewpoints on illegal immigration. They have been largely ignored by parishoners, who consider them among the lessor authorities on the subject.
No. He has done more to destroy the Catholic faith in Los Angeles and any bishop before him. He is what he is...a heretic "not of God" and deserves NO respect whatsoever.
