Short-timer Brian Vickers 'uninvited' to debriefings
By JIM UTTER
The Charlotte Observer
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Nextel Cup driver Brian Vickers, who is leaving Hendrick Motorsports to join Team Red Bull next season, is no longer allowed to participate in Hendrick’s post-practice team debriefings.

Hendrick started the meetings – involving drivers and crew chiefs with its four Cup teams – during the summer. It was in June that Vickers asked for and received a release from his contract with Hendrick. Shortly thereafter, he was announced as Red Bull’s first driver hire for the 2007 season.

“You know, it’s unfortunate. I would like to be involved in them, but it’s not my call,” Vickers said Friday at Kansas Speedway.

Asked if his exclusion was a result of his move to another team, he said: “I would think that would be a safe assumption. I don’t think it completely caught me off guard but at the same time I did expect to be there. It is what it is.”

OOOPS and now I know why his plane landed in Talladega before continuing on to Lawrence Kansas yesterday......

TALLADEGA -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. got out of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo he was driving around the newly resurfaced Talladega Superspeedway on Thursday afternoon.

He walked casually to the passenger side, surveyed the damage and laughed.

"Oh, man, the wall," he said.

The Talladega wall was just fine.

The passenger side of the 2007 car on loan so Earnhardt could give selected members of the state media and a few speedway sponsors a ride on the smooth new track?

Not so much.

Earnhardt took most of the right rearview mirror -- at least the glass portion -- off and scratched the right rear quarter panel pretty good by sliding the car against the wall in the turns. It was all fun and games.
