Clinton tells Labor Party to avoid Democrats' fate

MANCHESTER, England -- Former President Bill Clinton sought today to boost Britain's badly divided Labor Party, warning supporters not to let it suffer the same fate as America's defeated Democrats.

Delegates at Labor?s annual conference gave a celebrity's welcome to a leader they love far better than President Bush, who is widely despised in the party.

Mr. Clinton charmed a packed auditorium with a 40-minute speech in which he lavished praise on Prime Minister Tony Blair and Treasury chief Gordon Brown, Mr. Blair's likely successor.

In a reference to the political damage Mr. Blair suffered at home because of his relationship with Mr. Bush, Mr. Clinton thanked him for maintaining Britain's alliance with the United States "through quite a lot of storm as well as occasional sunshine."

He said that because Labor had been so successful in strengthening Britain's economy and modernizing its society, there was a danger that voters would assume the improvements were "just a part of the landscape" and that any party that came to power would make similar choices.

"I have been there," he said, recalling that his administration cut the U.S. deficit drastically, only to watch it balloon under Mr. Bush. "I say that to remind you that it can change quickly."

With the departing Mr. Blair, Labor's most successful leader ever, the party faces a potentially perilous future. Infighting has tarnished its image, and the opposition Conservative Party is surging after nearly a decade in the doldrums.

A fierce party rebellion forced Mr. Blair to announce Sept. 7 that he will quit within a year. In his emotional final conference speech Tuesday, he warned the party to stop its internal battles or risk being punished at the polls.

This is bullshit in its truest form.

What do you expect from this POS. Traveling around the world sticking his noes where it doesnt belong. His own Presidency sucked --no pun intended--and he goes around spreading his "wisdom". I dont know who this POS thinks he is but he should be curbed.

Between him and Carter they have succeeded in making the office of the President even less than it was when he was there. Going around fellating the brits and venezuelans and Africans, telling them what they want to here like they actually represented something besides the two worst presidency's in the history of the United States.

All they need to do is not elect a Clintoon-type as their standardbearer. Their leader should be able to keep it in his pants, not be a flaming sociopath, not have his business associated executed (allegedly), not rape women in hotel rooms, not get hummers from chunky interns in his office at 10 Downing Street, and not lie to his people every chance he gets.

Other than that, hey...

"Mr. Clinton charmed a packed auditorium"

Doesn't really speak well of them, does it? I'd like to see the doofus bitch come and speak at our state Republican convention this Saturday. I don't think "charmed" would be a way to describe the crowd.

"We got a very clear warning that if we don't stick together, we could lose everything" and give the Tories a shot at winning elections expected in 2009. "It can all be taken away."

This pretty much sums up how the Laborites and the Demoralists equate their ascent to elected office.....seems to me the Revolutionary War was fought to eliminate feudal lords & ladies.

The sad part is that Maggie Thatcher does not get credit for setting in motion Britain's recovery. Like Clinton sponging off Reagan/Bush, the Laborites have been coasting on Thatcher's accomplishments.....'cos they haven't done anything noteworthy in place of her reforms.

I was going to say "Carter" until you started your second paragraph. They've all the qualities of a dog except loyalty. When you look at people like Clinton and Carter you thank God that he made it so that all men shall some day die.

And that's a fine point Marlon. I'm also thrilled to hear that Hitlery has hired Terry McAuliffe (didn't he play the dastardly bastard that had Patrick Swayze killed in "Ghost" in order to get to Demi Moore?) to head up her campaign for President. What a blasphemy, a woman - a bitch - President.

Do not vote to office a power-hungry narcicist. Do not then throw all reason out the window in order to assuage his ego. When this narcicist is caught in massive corruption, do not shrug your shoulders and grin at how proud you are of his "style" while he did it. Do not allow your leader to profit from selling out national security, and then whine at the consequences.
