Mitt Romney lies about abortion
Red State ^

Posted on 09/27/2006 11:07:20 AM PDT by SDGOP

In his latest interview with RedState, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney responds to a question about his abortion position by saying that he's never adopted the label "pro-choice."

That's all well and good. Mitt Romney wants to be called pro-life. I'd like to be the King of all Londinium and wear a shiny hat.

But let's not kid ourselves: there is no substantive difference between the position labeled "pro-choice," declaring your support for "the right to choose." And that is something that Mitt Romney has done repeatedly over the course of his political career. To say otherwise is to tell a lie.

"I simply will not vote for a Mormon, end of story - and I don't care who might get elected in the end."

Doesn't that make you a bigot?

I take that back - you have Greg Laurie on your profile page - maybe you're not a jack mormon, but you're mistaken that I'm a bigot. I don't mind being narrow minded.

And actually at 18-19, I did a fair share about sharing the true gospel - but that's another discussion.

I have things to do, so have a good evening.

"It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship." (C. S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory)

"The command Be ye perfect is not idealistic gas. Nor is it a command to do the impossible. He is going to make us into creatures that can obey that command. He said (in the Bible) that we were "gods" and He is going to make good His words. If we let Him-for we can prevent Him, if we choose-He will make the feeblest and filthiest of us into a god or goddess, dazzling, radiant, immortal creature, pulsating all through with such energy and joy and wisdom and love as we cannot now imagine, a bright stainless mirror which reflects back to God perfectly (though, of course, on a smaller scale) His own boundless power and delight and goodness. The process will be long and in parts very painful; but that is what we are in for. Nothing less. He meant what He said" (C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity)

It never made waves at all when Lewis wrote those things, it is only in the last 20 years that people with an axe to grind decided to spin that same idea into an attack on the LDS.

You're being obtuse. I suspect a jack-mormon, not really a former mormon.

Check my forum page.

You can also follow my forum posts.

I have even been suspended on several occasions for being a little bit too highly critical of Mormon Doctrine and Mormon history. I am certainly no friend to the LDS Church. Especially on this forum. Ask around.

I am not a friend to the LDS Church, but I am not going to declare myself the enemy of any Mormon. I dare say that without the (90% Republican) Mormon vote in Florida, Al Gore would have been the president from 2001 to 2005.

But then Al Gore is a "Christian" so everything would have worked out ok, huh?

How about Jews? Do you vote for them?

Dear Radix,

If you believe that abortion should be generally legal, then you are pro-abortion.

If you can't accept the truth of that, then you should at least be able to accept that you are "pro-choice."

Certainly, folks who believe that abortion should generally be legal are not in any way pro-life.

Dear conservative blonde,

"Don't ever discount the work of God in the heart of man."

I've given no indication that I do.

In Mr. Romney's case, however, there is no evidence to suggest that that is what has happened.

The meager evidence at hand points to a cynical, political ploy to continue his political career, onward and upward.

Will Romney or Rudy or Allen or whoever we elect have the strength to send volunteers off to battle, console their families and tell the world why it is necessary?

That is the core of my original assessment in post # 62.

Of the three you named, I feel that Romney is the least prepared to do that.

I can't think of a Jewish person that I have voted for - give me the name of one in California or Oregon that is conservative and I'll let you know.

That's a red herring....

Bruce Hershenson ran for senate. Did you vote for him? How about Dennis Prager? Would you vote for him? Or would you prefer a good "Christian" like Hillary or John Kerry or Al Gore?

You're being ridiculous -

I wouldn't vote for either AlBore or Hitlery -

People throw out "Judge not lest you be judged" a lot on this forum. I seldom see that we're told to judge by fruit out of a life. I might vote for Prager, I honestly haven't paid any attention to him to know for sure. I have no idea who Hershenson is. The difference is lost on you that there is a difference in who the ultimate god is for Mormonism vs. the God of Judiasm and Christianity.

You feel free to vote for whomever you want to. And I'm going to feel free to do the same according to my beliefs and values.

And I'm done with this thread -

I have no idea who Hershenson is.

He ran for Senate against Barbara Boxer. He lost because Barbara Boxer managed to get the Evangelical Christians to turn on him about a week before the election. We now have Barbara Boxer as our Senator instead of Bruce Hershenson.

I thought you were from California.

The difference is lost on you that there is a difference in who the ultimate god is for Mormonism vs. the God of Judiasm and Christianity.

Jews do not believe in a Trinitarian God. (Mormons at least profess a belief in a Trinitarian Godhead). Jews do not accept that Jesus is God. Hence they do not believe in the same God that Christians do. Will that stop you from voting for them? Even if it means that someone like Hillary or Kerry or Al Gore would end up as president?

And I'm done with this thread -

Bye.

It would be inappropriate to hold back voting for Romney because he is mormon. (Although I would vote against a Muslim....but that is because a good muslim must be a jihadist hoping to subjugate Christians and others.)

I would vote against Romney in the primaries because he is pro-choice as evidenced by this thread. (A womans' right to choose is the same as saying "pro-choice," and "pro-choice" is the same as saying pro-abortion.)

At this point, I'm hard-pressed to vote for McCain no matter if the primary or the general election. Giuliani and Romney I could probably hold my nose and pull the lever.

I'd prefer to be voting for a solid, pro-life, pro-gun, pro-family, pro-growth, pro-ownership, strict-constructionist conservative in the general election. My favorite at this point is Frist of those running. He has the
