WASHINGTON The cooling-off period ends today on documents temporarily sealed by President Bush in the bribery case of Congressman William Jefferson.
The Louisiana Democrat has been the focus of prosecutors and investigators who suspect him of taking 400-thousand dollars in bribes from a business executive.
Bush placed materials seized from Jefferson's Capitol Hill office off limits for 45 days, but that time is up. A court will decide if the F-B-I's searches in May were an unconstitutional intrusion. Until a judge rules, prosecutors won't examine the materials agents seized.

Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., leaves the White House after after attending a meeting in this July 11, 2006, file photo. Looking past the Nov. 7 elections, the possibility exists for December runoff elections in Louisiana, where state law turns Election Day into an open primary; and in Texas, where a court ruling had the same effect. And though Louisiana's 2nd Congressional District has been heavily Democratic and likely to stay that way Jefferson is at the center of a federal bribery investigation, and two of his12 opponents are Republican. I believe I read that the judge will not rule until AFTER the elections.
Not surprising,, a lot of pressure has been brought to bear on the process to drag it out as long as possible.
Regardless,, We truly have the Best Congre$$ money can buy.
That $90K in marked bills they found in his freezer was money he earned selling Tickle Me Elmo dolls on eBay, get off the poor man's back < /sarcasm off
Am I mistaken? Wasn't the idea that the searches were unconstitutional based upon the separation of the branches of government? What a boon that would be for all of the crooks in Congress.
Want to bet they will put the marked money and records back in his deep freeze today?
No way these records will see the light of day.
$10 says he's reelected.
are they protecting this guy cause he is a black guy?
Or cause he is another pathetic lib?
I wouldn't touch that bet with a 20 foot pole!
It wouldn't suprise me if the evidence "disappeared".
$20 says its a landslide.
It appears to me that you only bet on sure things and fixed horse races.
:)
I calls em the way I sees em.
This is one weird article!

A federal appeals court on Friday barred the Justice Department from reviewing evidence seized from a Louisiana congressman's office during an unprecedented FBI raid on his Capitol Hill office in May.
A three-judge panel ordered a federal trial judge to ensure that Democratic Rep. William Jefferson be given copies of seized evidence contained on more than a dozen computer hard drives, several floppy disks and two boxes of paper documents..."
