Republicans pick the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul for the 2008 presidential convention, GOP sources say...
Why can't it be in my hometown of Bayside, Queens?
I'm a (R) delegate this year, and hope to be in 2008. WOOT!
Minneapolis/St. Paul is a great convention city. I've been there many times.

I volunteered at Republican National Conventions in 1988, 1996 and 2000. I hope to be a delegate in 2008. I think that they choose a very good location because it's in the Central Time Zone, so it's easier for more people to attend, without spending a lot of money or time to travel to the convention. The last four Republican National Conventions were in New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, and Houston. The last one that was in the Central Time Zone was 14 years ago.
I was disappointed to see they picked a Blue City as well.
The GOP is in trouble in RED Ohio & what appears to be a snub from the Republicans is typical & sad. (sigh)
Houston is in the Central Time Zone.
I don't think the GOP 2008 Presidential campaign will be in as much trouble in Ohio or Florida, we can still pull it off in those states without the convention.
I'm glad the GOP has actually made an intelligent stategic move for once, this may push us over the top and take Minnesota from the Dems in 2008 and help us in the surrounding states as well.
Wasnt MN actually quite close this past election or was it WI?
Why the crap havent they figued out to move it into the red states? CA, NY, and now MN there are some fine spots in Florida, Texas, St Louis, Denver, c'mon support the home team!
I know that Houston is in the Central Time Zone. The Republican National Convention was in Houston in 1992. I was referring to Houston when I said that the last time a Republican National Convention was in the Central Time Zone was 14 years ago.
Wisconsin was closer than Minnesota. WI was the only state, in the 2004 presidential election, in which a candidate won with less than the majority of the popular vote. Kerry got about 49%, and Nader got about 2%. Bush got a little less than 49%.
point taken
Well, this will be a boost for Coleman's re-election efforts. I wouldn't be surprised if that was a factor in this decision too.
This or Ohio seem to have been the best strategic places to hold a convention given the new "swing" states are places like Ohio, Minn, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, etc...
Minnesota is a state that has been slowly tilting red, the DFL increasing becoming more extreme and irrelevant. Repubs probably think this state is ripe for a pickup in the 08 presidential election.
Cincinnati.
Yee Haw !!!!!
We MUST get together for this !!!!!!!
I hope they bring Bulletproof vests. Murderapolis is back.
The delegates are chosen using different methods, depending upon the state. You should e-mail your state republican chairman, to find how they're chosen, in your state. In the majority of states, delegates run, in the primaries, to reprepresent a particular presidential candidate, at the convention. Those delegate candidates can be delegates only if the candidate they support wins enough votes in the primary. Some states have a "winner take all" system of convention delegates, and some states let delegates vote for different candidates.
Do you want the republican nominee to be chosen before the convention or during the convention? I hope that no candidate wins enough delegates before the convention. That would cause more suspense, and the convention would be more exciting, causing more people to watch the convention and hear the great republican ideas.
