PHOENIX The state Democratic Party's chairman has acknowledged the party gave 100-thousand dollars to an independent expenditure group that in turn paid for a Web site critical of Republican gubernatorial candidate Len Munsil. A Democratic Party spokesman on September 18th had denied the party had any involvement with two groups linked to the Web site, but party Chairman David Waid now says the spokesman spoke in error and hadn't known of the donation to the Arizona Values Coalition.

The Arizona Values Coalition was identified on the Web site (http://www.lenmunsilfacts.com) as being a major source of funding for the Arizona Conservative Trust, the group identified on the Web site as its sponsor.

Waid said the party gave the 100-thousand dollars to the Arizona Values Coalition on September 5th with no strings attached but in hopes that the group's activities would help Democratic candidates get elected.

Munsil campaign consultant Nathan Sproul expressed disbelief that there was no coordination between the party and the groups and noted that the two independent expenditure groups have names that sound like they have Republican ties.

I've been receiving e-mails saying Munsil is against the death penalty and favors gun control. If true, I can't vote for him.

Anybody know if this is part of a dirty tricks campaign or is the guy really a closet lib? I voted for Goldwater and Munsil does nothing for me so far.

I agree with you there... I have been recieving the same emails (also with a link to this website) and trying to verify one way or the other. I voted for Goldwater too in the primary... but if Munsil is for gun control I cant vote for him either, on the other hand, I doubt I can connect the arrow pointing toward Janets name either... Guess I may be wasting my vote on the independent candidate this year.

That's a great website! Thanks for posting the link.

Is this a new dem slime tactic, fund groups that sound conservative but they are not, use the group to portray their opponents as less conservative which is not the case.

The other thing I have noticed this year for the first time ever, Jim Pederson (running against John Kyle) has been running tv ads now for about 4 months and I have yet to see one where he says he is a Democrat... No mention of party affiliation whatsoever. Early on, before Kyle started running any ads, Pederson's ads sounded like he was the conservative candidate, I initially thought he was a republican trying to distance himself from the Bush admin.

Munsil is not a closet lib. That's just a divide and conquer strategy by the Dems.

I've met him twice. Actually spent a lot of time with him one of those times. He's a legitimate Ronald Reagan/Rush Limbaugh conservative.

He'll make a great governor, but we all need to vote to make it happen and get rid of Nappie.

Need more info, go to http://lenmunsil.com/ and get involved.
