Good morning, tiredoflaundry! How am I?
G'morning!
I think the damage has been done to the Webb campaign. This is going to backfire - big time!
Webb dodges question on racial epithet

That depends, what are your measurements? :o)
At some point people turn this off, and realise there is a smear campaign going on, because nobody could be that bad.
That motivates the base, and turns independents against the person doing the smearing.
It also might motivate people who support Allen and who know things about his opponent to come forward, to "even the playing field". Whether the media will allow single-source charges against Webb remains to be seen, although I doubt it.
We should write letters to the editors decrying the lack of journalistic standards here. Journalists have a two-witness rule for stuff like this, for good reason. You are recounting a 30-year-old conversation. People remember things differently, so if you have two people saying opposite things, you should need a third person to verify which one of the two is more likely correct.
The media has decided that one person for each of 4 different episodes counts as confirmation. But that is false. The reason the two-person rule generally works is this -- in order to "set up" a candidate with a smear, you would have to find TWO people from 30 years ago who were at the same place at the same time, and are BOTH willing to lie about something. That's hard to do. But if the event really happened, it is EASY to do.
But it is also EASY to find 5 people in the nation who are willing to lie, especially about something that isn't a criminal charge, or even a serious offense (meaning I can say the word right now, and I haven't broken any laws). People can easily justify that, because the leftists BELIEVE Allen is a racist so they are just doing the "lords work" by lying.
The New York Times had one "incident" where a wife said she heard Allen at an election victory party. They didn't even TALK to her husband before running the story -- I gues it was so important to get it out that there wasn't time to try to confirm it. That is a lack of journalistic integrity.
And to print Larry Sabato as "confirmation" was also false, since he was only saying he had heard Taylor and Shelton say Allen said it, and he "believed" them.

""I don't think that there's anyone who grew up around the South that hasn't had the word pass through their lips at one time or another in their life," Webb told reporters."
Webb just smeared the south again, suggesting anybody from the south had to have used a racial slur, as if that is an excuse.
I happen to believe he has used and is familiar with the term -- you don't put it in your novels if it isn't part of a vocabulary you are used to hearing.
His answer to the question was remarkably similar to Allens:
"I have never used that word in my general vocabulary or in any derogatory way."
Someone needs to ask him what a "non-derogatory" way of saying it is. Because I think I understand what he is saying, he didn't say it AT a black person. But every report on Allen is that he only said it around white people. For example, one discredited story has Allen saying "only (n-words) eat the turtles". That is certainly not "derogatory" other than CALLING THEM THE n-word, which is OBVIOUSLY DEROGATORY.
So what does Webb mean by "in a derogatory way"? Isn't refering to a black person as a "n-word" derogatory?
But like I said, his answer otherwise is like Allens -- not part of my vocabulary, don't REMEMBER saying it but I'm not saying I didn't say it.
So I guess now anybody who knows he said it once has to come forward as a matter of conscience to "remind" him, since he can't remember. I expect to see Larry Sabato on the news tonight.
Smirkaca!
Turtles???
Nnnnnnnnnnn NEIGHBOR!
Same objective, different tactics.
Do we allow this to happen? Do you speak up and condemn such tactics by the left.
It is ultimately up to us.
If the worst thing they can find to rail against is that someone may have used the "N" word 30+ years ago, things going pretty well in our country. Now let's move on to real issues. George Allen is not going to shut down the government trying to impeach W and then Cheney, Mr. Webb will. George Allen will not raise your taxes, Mr. Webb will. George Allen sure as hell will not cut and run from the terrorists, Mr. Webb will. Now, who would you vote for?
Does Webb and his campaign realize they are also saying that all southerns are racists??
