Why was this hearing canceled, does anybody know?
Without linking the (dreadful) sites that are reporting this, they are saying (hoping) that today was the last day that Bolton could be confirmed and it's over for him.
Has anybody heard anything about this?
Girlie Men.
So is it true? Is Bolton out in January?
Another recess appointment possible?
What happens next??
Bolton isn`t going anywhere.Bush can always do another recess appointment
I didn't know that Chafee was a male. I thought he had gone "Metro-Sexual". Nonetheless, akin to the Specter debacle, I have to wonder about the RNC/GWB at times. IMO, we would be better off if the RINO's were purged.
I don't think so.
This is what came in an email to me:
The last pre-election loophole through which John Bolton's confirmation might have snuck through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was at 2:15 this afternoon at a previously called "business meeting" of the Committee.
That meeting has been cancelled -- and with it even the dimmest chance of John Bolton being confirmed as US Ambassador to the United Nations.
Some have said that another effort could be mounted during a lame duck session of Congress, but there are several Republicans who will not feel bound by the White House in that circumstance; Dems as well -- who will vote against cloture on the floor of the Senate were it to get out of Committee then.
But the guy who wrote those passages is Steve Clemons of The Washington Note, so I don't know whether to believe it or not.
If the GOP let this happen, I am going to go absolutely ballistic.
Yes, Chafee postponed it indefinitely. The snake!

But Senator Chafee, despite having voted in favor of Bolton's confirmation in a committee vote last year, has now changed his mind.
In a letter to the State Department, Chafee explained that he was going to sacrifice Bolton's confirmation effectively fire him because he doesn't agree with portions of the administration's Middle East policies.
Of course, Chafee didn't mention in the letter that he was facing a tough reelection contest. This week, Chafee prevailed in a close primary race and now faces a very difficult battle against a well-funded Democrat.
The bottom line isn't surprising: Chafee's new-found opposition isn't based on anything more that his political needs of the moment. Unfortunately, by putting his own political problems first, he's doing his nation a serious disservice. At a time it needs its best and brightest on the job, defending its interests in places like the U.N., Chafee would send one packing.
I just cannot believe that they would disrespect this man by using him as a politcal pawn; I'm sick of them all.
If this is what it looks like, it's a huge failure of Senate leadership. The UN means nothing to me, but it is nice to have a good guy there who stands up for our interests.
Are the votes there ?
Deals being made ?
That's right. Lincoln Chafee.
Bolton does not seem worried.
He knows he's staying one way or another.
ARRRRRRRRRGH. If we have to lose a seat, I sincerely hope it is Chafee's. And I hope he spends his end days living in a hovel.
War always means bigger government and higher taxes (direct or indirect, today or in the future - and if you think the Iraq war's $1 billion a week cost will be any exception, you're dreaming). And of course, war kills. So war should be entered into only when necessary for American national security. Invading Iraq didn't meet that test. Bolton (along with Hillary) supported and supports that misguided policy, so I say to Chafee, bravo for thwarting his nomination.
The administration is consiodering appointing him to some State Dept. position which doesn't require confirmation and then making him acting UN ambassador.
Clinton did this.
Thanks for letting me know. I'll go to bed happy tonight.
Bush can always do another recess appointment
My understanding is that he can be reappointed, but he can't get any compensation. Unless he's willing to work for free, this isn't the solution.
