PRIME Minister John Howard says he will continue to hold hands with his wife, Janette, despite criticism by Margaret Whitlam in a new biography.
Mrs Whitlam, wife of former Labor prime minister Gough Whitlam, says in the book that Mrs Howard should not be holding hands in public with her husband and had no sense of humour.
"For God's sake, they've been married for over 30 years!" Mrs Whitlam said in the biography to be launched next week, excerpts of which were published in today's The Bulletin magazine.
Mr Howard today refused to say whether he found the comments hurtful.
"In the time that I have been Prime Minister, Janette and I have always given full respect to Gough and Margaret Whitlam as a former prime minister and his wife, and I don't have any further comment to make," he said.

Mrs. Whitlam needs to get laid.
How pathetic that they criticize him for a small gesture that shows he has a good marriage.
Or at least have someone she enjoys holding hands with. Poor bitter woman.
Wow. When I've been married thirty years, I will be thrilled if my husband still wants to hold my hand.
Some people just don't know how to enjoy life.
Ah! Margaret Whitlam. Another idiot feminist.
That holding hands with one's husband is considered newsworthy enough to print....
I still, after 20 years of marriage, lift my top and flash my husband, who still looks and gets turned on. This is one of the joys of a long-lived marriage. The genuine attachment of a long marriage is fabulous.
Too bad this liberal biddy has no clue.
It seems Margaret Whitlam has a GOD sized ego. If I am not mistaken the bible says to not meddle in other people's marriages.
I'll bet men kissing and fondling each other in some gay pride parade is fine with her, though......

Have at it!
Please protect Ms. Whitlam's eyes - she might see President Bush and his lovely lady wife Laura actually k.i.s.s.!
Well, she was a social worker...
Mrs. Whitlam sounds a bit jealous. I thought conservatives were supposed to be the strait-laced, boring ones. Holding hands is a very sweet and romantic gesture.
LOL... My wife does this too, but after almost 30 years of marriage it's more likely that she's having a hot flash.
She's improved with age.
he has a good marriage.
A good marriage is not what is considered OK by the elite, as witness the Comrade Clintoons. You are so, so, totally out of it to be loyal to a mere spouse, don't you know?
Don't put that on John Madden. Give him a break...LOL!!!
