NIE [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
is being declassified, per Bush press conference a little earlier. Here's our editorial, btw, on it and the war. According to FNC right now, parts will be up on www.dni.gov later today.

This was not so much a planned surprise, as it was a pre-emptive strike on the inuendo and bombastic propaganda being indulged in by the NYT.
Whatever was published by the NYT, was incomplete, and left an entirely wrong perception of the real state of affairs in relation to the concentration of Islamic fascists, and their mobilized capabilities.
More of the story coming....

I just bought some WWII first person shooter game for my computer on Sunday night, and the thing is incredible. (Wait, this ties in.) Realistic action, impressive play. The thing that amazes me, is that the experience of war is so unlike any raygun game I have played. In this game, I rode around Pearl Harbor on tour, just shipping in on my assignment. The 21st Century Human part of me is half listening, scanning the skies, waiting for the enemy bombers to pour from the heavens. The characters in the game are on parade, marching, relaxing, going on with their lives...and I almost want to shout, "Hey! This is a pivitol moment in history! Run! The bastards are going to attack!" Then as it happens, the adreneline of running down the dock, dodging lead...a completely realistic esperience.
I walked away with this: We, in our recliners, with microwaves and big houses and two cars, have no fricking idea what fear is. History lumbers around our lives like a great big bear, and in forty years, we will say "Here is the moment that X, Y, and Z began to converge, causing the change in the world." We are so insulated from real fear and danger that haveing the price of gas go up a quarter seems like a really big deal. And here, in the middle of the silent maelstrom, Ms. Nancy "deer caught in headlights" Pelosi stands and tries to tell us to go back to sleep, that the bear really doesn't exist, and if it does, it's all a plot by the Eeeeevil George Bush.
We need to be scared once and awhile. It keeps us awake. It keeps us alive. And the most you can say about the Democratic Party early in the 21st Century, is that their entire morality, their reason for living, so hinges upon getting back into power, that they don't give a damn about who gets hurt, about how many Americans will die, or about anything but blaming others for their own failures before we wake up and take out the lumbering bear of history.
"The Democratic Party: We would turn you in to the Taliban for dancing, and stand mutely silent while they removed your head and put a bullet in the heads of your wife and children, as long as it would win us back Congress. So vote for us: We Hate Bush!"

Is this Rove's October Surprise? Something tells me this is just an appetizer...

My wife and I did a two week tour of England, Scotland, and Ireland (north and south) this June. We were surprised that even 60 years after WWII there are memorials, speeches, parades, posters, chat groups, etc., etc., you name it, all the time and everywhere about the war and those which preceded it. We then compared that to the USA where it is becoming less and less a concern of the population as to the dangers in the world. We then realized England, Scotland, and Ireland have been fighting wars and enemies on their soil for the last 1,000 years. They have a sense of what it means to have enemies, both without and within.
We don't need to be afraid, we need to be vigilant and ready.
