U.S. Rep. John Salazar, D-Colo., and an aide are the talk of the Colorado political blogosphere.
A highly critical ad apparently ready for television was circulating on the Internet on Monday, but had yet to be broadcast.
The ad questions the conduct of Salazars Washington, D.C., spokeswoman, Nayyera Haq, who also speaks for the Congressional Muslim American Staffers Association.
In that capacity, Haq criticized Rep. Tom Tancredo, a Front Range Republican, for his letter supporting Pope Benedict XVI, who had quoted a 14th century emperor that condemned Islam.
Salazar, a first-term congressman from Manassa, has declined to comment directly on the issue, as has Haq.
Salazars campaign manager, Sal Pace, said in an e-mailed statement that the ad represented gutter-level campaign tactics and that Salazar wouldnt bring his campaign to levels that others are seeking to bring to the campaign.
Salazars Republican opponent, Scott Tipton, has called for Salazar to make clear his position on Haqs comments.
The Tipton campaign had nothing to do with the Internet ad, however, said Dirk Hallen, campaign manager, who reiterated his boss call to Salazar.
The ad, which surfaced on two Web sites devoted to Colorado politics, totheright.org and extremeliberal.com, questions the activities of the staffers association.

What do you mean Tancredo VERSUS Benedict??? Tancredo was supporting Benedict, and Benedict probably never heard of Tancredo!
Salazar's spokesperson is a Muzzy?
Haq, a Muslim, castigated U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo last week over his letter of support to Pope Benedict XVI for remarks the pope made that have angered Muslims worldwide.
Nayyera Haq, 24, spokeswoman for U.S. Rep. John Salazar...
Probably a deliberate attempt to paint Tancredo as anti Catholic.
uhh...I think we have a problem here....
Muslim staffer took congressman to task over letter to pope
Let me explain.
We are TAAAHHHHLERUNT.
In order to show our tolerance, we give jobs to those who are aligned with our enemies.
The same people who hire these people, COINCIDENTALLY demand that our military treat the prisoners in gitmo with white, kid gloves.
Right now, guards are sick to death of being hamstrung by the brass, who is under pressure from the likes of Salazar, to make sure they wear gloves when handling a Koran...oh wait...now they can't even touch a Koran with gloves..they have to use a civilian muslim to inspect them for weapons, notes, etc.
I agree, the "headline" is misleading. I like Tancredo - a lot. He actually doesn't seem to have the general "swarminess" of most politicians, lol.
I wondered from the start how the folks in Western Colorado would react to Salazar hiring a East/West-Coast liberal Muslim to be his spokesperson. Got to wonder who's side he is on in the war on terror.
The top headline is misleading. This is better :
" Tancredo urges pope to stand his ground..."

Whose pocket is Salazar in?
Yep, Nayyera Haq has free speech to say whatever she wants, but how dare Rep. Tancredo support Pope Benedict's FREE SPEECH!
I am really getting tired of the double standard and hypocrisy.
BTW, it didn't 'condemn' islam it brought into question its use of spreading their religion by the sword...a good question.
Islam condemns itself.
He's a DemocRat, does that answer your question?
He lives in Nancy Pelosi's purse.
His staff apparently is former Pelosi people.
John Salazar got elected because of his brother's coat tails...and because McInnis walked away. The district should be ours.
Hopefully this gets out to western Coloado and Pueblo...This district is huge and has the labor unions of Pueblo too.
We need to regain this seat.
