RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A noted political scientist joined one of Sen. George Allen's former college football teammates in claiming the senator used a racial slur to refer to blacks in the early 1970s, a claim Allen dismisses as ''ludicrously false.''
Larry J. Sabato, one of Virginia's most-quoted political science professors and a classmate of Allen's in the early 1970s, said in a televised interview Monday that Allen used the epithet.
Sabato's assertion came on the heels of accusations by Dr. Ken Shelton, a radiologist who was a tight end and wide receiver for the University of Virginia in the early 1970s when Allen was quarterback. He said Allen not only used the n-word frequently but also once stuffed a severed deer head into a black family's mailbox.

Of course keeping in mind that what is today considered a "racial slurr" was often the "standard" terminology used in the Early 70's (and before)- prior to the PC police deciding they know better how Americans are to speak.
Seems Larry wants to play hard and heavy. I hope he is clean. Heaven forbid anyone finds an uncomplementary quote from his past. I would guess he has tenure, so he has nothing to worry about. God I hate liberals, they are so sleazy.
By allowing the left "blogosmear" to drive their coverage the media has gone over the edge.
And what do we know about Professor Sabato, other than he is the "most quoted professor in the land"?
The Dims and the media are desperate.
Once again, where was Prof. Sabato in 1993 when Allen ran for Governor? Or in 2000 when he was running for Senate for the first time? These sudden recollections are appearing less credible by the day.
First they said he is a JEW! Now they say he is a racist, next they will say he is GAY. In the future they will say he is an ALIEN from outer space. The Dems and Webb must be losing the campaign.
"Hey, Larry, is that a dead animal on your head?"
So, where was Larry when Allen first ran for the Senate, ran for governor; and ran for the US House?
All of sudden Larry Bananas and all of the Democrats in VA think George Allen uses bad language?
BTW,Will someone please tell me what qualifies Mr. Webb to be in the Senate?
Larry Sabato is a waste of oxygen.
That he's virtually never right?
Well then, no wonder the media quotes him all the time.
I tried to watch the video on MSBC's site, but I can't. Does anyone have a transcript?
Uhmm... I heard him say it too, that thing, that all those other guys heard him say. I just didn't say nothin' before now 'cause... uh... And so did my cousin, in Canada..

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.
They cannot talk the issues because they would lose.
This is the biggest, most tense and committed liberal-media complex alliance formed to get somebody out of office, that I have seen in many years.
Larry was a fourth-year student when I was an entering first-year coed at UVA. He was well-known, even back then, a darling of the faculty. I believe that he was president of the student body; whatever he was, he was making a big splash. They saw that he would be a star. Then I heard rumors that he was taking faculty support a bit too far. He stopped attending classes regularly because he was so busy doing his thing. Never heard how it was resolved. But criticism of such star was unusual. I didn't know anyone who knew him personally.
The Left's blogo-smear only hurts the Left media.
What he said was that he could believe Allen said such a thing. He refused to say that he actually heard him say it. I, too, can believe 10 impossible things before breakfast.
