Yuma students will take required military aptitude test (The usual Liberal whine is in here)

YUMA – Sophomores and seniors at two Yuma high schools will be required to take the Armed Services Vocational Battery this week.

That's unless their parents object.

The ASVAB tests whether someone qualifies for military service and what jobs in the military would suit him or her.

Before, the ASVAB was only given to students who requested to take it.

While I think that any student who wishes to take the military aptitude test should be allowed to take it, I can't agree that all students should be forced to take it. High schools don't force students to take SATs or ACTs.

How can taking a test hurt anyone? It's probably more interesting than sitting in a study hall. It will probably help them when they take their SATs.

It's not allowing the students to take the test that I object to. It's the fact that they were required to do so unless their parents specifically objected.

There's no harm to this at all. None. Nada.

And they might even learn where they rank on a nationally normed test.

Or they might actually find out something about their aptitudes.

And unlike the SAT or ACT it is FREE.

Funny I was just thinking about the time I took the ASVAB. My scores allowed me to qualify for all but 3 Administrative positions in the Air Force. I wonder if the tests have changed since 1982?

If you don't object to government run schools, it is hard to see how you could object to this.

I object to your wanting me to subsidize you children in private schools instead of paying the freight yourself.
