I can't shoot for Shiite, as I'm sure you noticed, but I'm not a 'tard. And in reality neither are you and Eaker. Curmudgeons maybe, but not 'tards.
Maybe Marine FReepers "Texas Cowboy" and "LadyX" were in the side party to pipe him "aboard"?
Rest in peace Col. Cooper
Standing next to Col. Cooper is a young Philippine Civil Guard reservist, name unknown, whose obituary Cooper reported in one of his columns. The young soldier was found dead, along with his M1 Garand rifle, two expended clips and sixteen rounds of fired brass, presumably all he'd been issued. And the bodies of eighteen dead pro-communist raiders, the last two having been beaten to death with the rifle butt before the trooper died of blood loss.
There is a place called Valhalla for such men, the young Phillipino and the Old Marine Colonel. Godspeed, mi colonel.
AS well as freepers LadyX and CHIEF negotiator.
These rules are posted on bright paper between me and my gun safe.
hoplophobia: an irrational fear of weapons
But it's horribly misused. There are indeed those who are hoplophibic. But many are not fearful of weaponry, but more correctly hate them, and those who bear them. And many such are included by the term hoplophobe and should not be co described.
They are instead hoplomisophic or *hoplomisophs*. Col. Cooper responded in agreement to a letter I sent him on the subject, but the generic usage of the specific term had come into use by then.
The circumstances that created both his experience and knowledge base will not precisely repeat, so you are technically correct. But he took what he learned and passed it on to others ensuring that the lessons he picked up the hard way might prove beneficial to following generations. And, following his example, we can do the same, in matters of weaponscraft or otherwise.
There are today some VERY fine young Marines and soldiers instructed by him setting the example of leadership to their troops; some from his own family and many others who are not. Not all are in the military, of course. But enough are that I believe it will be enough to make the difference when it counts.
I can tell you what his parting advice to you would have been: Carry on, and shoot straight. Those were the last five words I heard from him, several years ago.
Why is hoplomisophic a better word than gun-hater or gun-banner? Those words are understandible, if awkward conjunctions. It strikes me that if you used the word "hoplomisophic" no one would have a clue what you were talking about. It's like doctor talk, intentionally obscure. That might make sense for doctors but seeing as the argument about gun-banners is in the public sphere I don't see the utility.
Please correct my spelling errors when quoting me. ;^)
That's some page you got there Archy.
