One person stood up to Bill Clinton in 1996. That was Ross Perot. I am not a Perot supporter, but he said Clinton was corrupt and he accurately predicted that Clinton would be impeached. The question he did not get asked, the one that NEEDs to be asked but won't, is whether his dalliance with Monica Lewinsky and subsequent subjourning perjury in the Paula Jones case left him unable to assert himself against Osama Bin Laden without that response being framed as a "wag the dog".

This is why the military, or any security related business, does not want its operatives engaged in activities that make them susceptible to blackmail or criticism of their motives....like adultery, homosexuality, or criminal activity.

As I recall, Clinton gave an anti Ken Starr speech which routinely was viewed as a disaster. He went on vacation, got there, and turned around on a helicpter to Washington to announce the missile strikes.

IMHO what happened was Clinton finally approved one of many plans to get Al Queda, because he needed the cover. As I read it, there were many prior requests which he rejected or ignored. This one was pure wag the dog, but he had the cover of it being a legitimate proposal from Defense.
