COCOA Local motorcycle builder Billy Lane turned himself in at 1 p.m. today in connection with a fatal accident Sept. 4.
Among the charges Lane faces are driving under influence, manslaughter and driving with his license suspended.
Lane, 36, arrived with his lawyers at the Florida Highway Patrol office on State Road 520.
FHP spokeswoman Kim Miller said Lanes blood alcohol level was .192 when the accident occurred on State Road A1A south of Melbourne Beach.
She said bond would be set at $15,000.
Investigators have said Lane was trying to pass two other vehicles on a double-yellow-lined stretch of A1A when his southbound 2006 Dodge Ram pickup collided with a northbound 1983 Yamaha moped.
Melbourne Beach resident Gerald Morelock, 56, was killed. Lane and a passenger in his truck were injured.
For almost 20 years, Lane has made a name for himself building custom choppers. He has appeared on the Discovery Channels Bike Build-Off and Monster Garage.
That other builder was Mike Brown owner of Amen motorcycles. I agree they did edit the show to make Brown look like a fool or extremist.
It is unfortunate that he is responsible for such a horrible event.
Y'all came in late.. a troll was hitting this (and most other threads) with unrelated garbage..
I saw that, but the poster replied to post #1, indicating the thread should be moved to chat, not comment 2's drivel.
Why on earth did he have to turn himself in and was not arrested on the scene? If they know his BAC at the time of the accident, then they must have had him in custody at the scene.
Sorry if my comment was out of line...but the "take it to chat" comment was posted to the original poster of this thread...not to the trolls comment. That's why I asked what I did.
I suspect he was arrested at the scene on the drunk driving charge and bailed himself out. The prosecutor would have conducted an investigation over the following weeks and gotten a warrant on the negligent homocide charge.
I suppose that makes sense.....I was thinking that a charge for manslaughter would have been almost immediate....
Thanks for the good feedback.
Jesse James is married to Sandra Bullock, I wouldn't even cross the street.
You wouldn't cross the street for what reason? I don't understand what that means. You don't like them?

The FHP gets one chance to file on an accident, they wanted the final results from the lab on Blood Alchohol level before filing. That's why he's getting the manslaughter charge. At least he turned himself in and didn't flee to Mexico. A very sad thing. The person killed was a local musician/surfer in his 40's.
"...he was very cool and willing to answer lots of questions."
He always seemed to me to be a nice, soft-spoken, very intelligent guy. He made an awful mistake, and he'll pay a huge price for it. The possible (probable?) jail time and civil suits are only part of the price. He'll be in his own personal hell over this for a very long time.
So the big bad biker actually rolls in a major cage most of the time, and has a typical "didn't see that damn little bike thing"...
These guys are all fake. TV created nonsense meets cold, hard reality. OC is next. The original guy in Long Beach seems 1/2 way together.

I think the big pickup was to pull a trailer full of bikes.
Billy Lane rode one of his choppers most of the time.
But hey, feel free to make sneering comments.
"You know Indian Larry died last yr from a motorcycle accident, don't know the details."
Inidan Larry was standing on the back of his motorcycle and fell off and hit his head.
Thanks. I will. The only time I was passed by a Harley (other than the guy I was riding with) on my 3000 mile trip this summer was by the one on a trailer -- pulled by a Dodge. I guess it's one of those "if I have to explain it you wouldn't understand things".
My condolences go out to the family of the biker; that is the guy RIDING the jap moped. Not the drunk TV hero pouser.
