Scientifically, that sounds stupid.

If he's a Christian, there's no need to.

I hope all Jews reexamine their lives and convert to Christianity.

For the purposes of making Aliyah (claiming Israeli citizenship) I believe this is true. The idea is that you know who your mother is, you can't really know who your father is.

I've been told that jewishness isn't a matter of blood, therefore there is no such thing as a "secular jew".

But for those who look for these things in people, I should think that blood is blood.

My father's people were Jewish. It was concealed from me.

Maybe so, but matrilinear succession takes into account the fate of Jewish women raped by Gentiles during pogroms, wars, and other persecutions; their offspring are therefore Jewish.

Jewishness is blood and/or faith.

The name Jew is derived from the Israelite tribe of Judah; therefore there are actual descendants from said tribe. If you are an actual descendant, you have Judah's blood in your veins. In addition there are many converts to Judaism who probably have no genetic link to Judah whatsoever.

Alouette's Law: Nobody is Jewish until they have made some attempt to keep Sabbath and/or Kosher and/or the High Holidays.

That's rather restrictive, it implies there's a religous aspect to all this. If that were true, we wouldn't be talking about Allen in the first place.

No, we were even after I posted. You remarked that Allen, as I understand it: a professing Christian, should convert to Judaism, as if his faith is not good enough. When Christians do that regarding Jews, they are savaged as bigots, racists, intolerant, etc.

Allen would be barred because he's adopted another religion. elcid1970's great-grandfather wouldn't help. A single grandfather would be enough, presuming you hadn't adopted another religion, something easily lied about if one wanted to emigrate to Israel. For those who are not practicing Jews, those qualifications are based on what was necessary to be persecuted under the Nuremburg Laws.

Not at all. You don't always know who the father is, but you do always know who the mother is. ;)

I'm confused. Any definitive opinion out there?

It depends on who's doing the identifying. The Nazis were rather more generous about regarding people as Jews.

Alouette's Law: Nobody is Jewish until they have made some attempt to keep Sabbath and/or Kosher and/or the High Holidays.

You might want to ammend that law. I keep Shabot, keep Kashrut, and keep all of the High Holy Days, so did rabbi Yeshua who I know to be the promised Mashiach. I'll bet you feel that last part excludes me, am I correct?

I can explain that. The biggest single contributor to the defeat of the Nazis was Communist Russia. Thus many Jews of that generation came out of the war with an enormous loyalty towards the USSR.

If I don't believe that your Rabbi Yeshua fulfilled the prophecies the Mashiach promised in scripture, I'll bet you feel that excludes me from eternal salvation, am I correct?

Well, are you arrogant or bigoted or both? I suspect both since you want Jews to convert to your religion.
