Pro-Gun Bills Make Way To House Floor! |
Friday, September 22, 2006 |
The House of Representatives may act as early as next week on critical pro-Second Amendment reform bills. These bills need your support today: H.R. 5092--the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) Modernization and Reform Act of 2006, by Reps. Howard Coble (R-N.C.) and Bobby Scott (D-Va.) -- will curb the agencys efforts to revoke dealers licenses for minor paperwork errors, improve the appeals process for dealers, and, establish new guidelines for BATFE investigations. This bill was drafted in large part to address recent, blatant BATFE abuses at Richmond, Virginia gun shows highlighted in hearings before the U.S. House Judiciary Committees Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. (See this story on Brady Centers blatant misrepresentation of this bill.) H.R. 5005--the Firearms Corrections and Improvements Act, by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Tex.) -- will protect gun owners privacy by creating a permanent version of the Tiahrt Amendment, preventing disclosure of gun owner records outside of legitimate criminal investigations. The bill also includes a ban on BATFE retrieving out-of-business dealers records by the gun owners namemaking permanent an appropriations restriction thats been in effect for the last 10 years. Among other reforms, H.R. 5005 will also permanently ban federal fees on instant background checks and roll back various restrictions on firearms industry activities. With the legislative clock running out, this may be our last chance to pass these essential reforms before the November election--so please be sure to immediately contact your U.S. Representative at (202) 225-3121, and urge him or her to VOTE FOR H.R. 5092 and H.R. 5005 when they are brought to the House floor! Additional contact information can be found by visiting www.NRAILA.org, clicking the Take Action icon, and then clicking the Write Your Representatives icon. Please be sure to contact your Representative TODAY, and urge your family, friends, and fellow firearm owners to do the same! Thank you for your continued support as we work to make these legislative reforms the law of the land! |
(I won't hold my breath waiting for that ping)
Do you still do this ping list?
Right to Keep and Bear Arms (RKBA)
It's from the updated ping list list.
Just got off the phone with my Rep's (Ike Skelton, D, MO) Lebanon office. He is a pretty dependable pro-gunner, but it is worth the dime to call these folks and let 'em know we are watching.
I am certain my rep., Richard Neal (Communist - MA-2) is waiting to hear from me...
At this point what I'd really like to see is a repeal of Bush Sr.'s import ban. It would be nice if we could reverse the ffl restrictions of the Clinton era and repeal the '86 new machinegun ban as well, but for the moment I'd just be happy as a clam if guns could be imported freely once again.

I left California 16 years ago ~ I could the hand writing on the wall.
No. Ain't no one "safe".
I don't know if I would like this to pass. I am like JPFO.org on the bill:
- HR 5092 does not require the videotaping of BATFE firearm tests, which would ensure these tests are conducted fairly and competently.
- HR 5092 does not require the BATFE to establish standardized, written procedures on how firearms are tested
- HR 5092 does not address the BATFE's policy of arbitrarily reclassifying firearms or firearm accessories as illegal, nor require the BATFE to give notice of such reclassification
- HR 5092 does not address the situation of gun owners who may have been unfairly convicted through faulty firearms testing or arbitrary firearms reclassification
I like HR 1603 better, it addresses all of those issues. We need to push of 1603 not 5092.
I'm deep behind enemy lines in a similar situation. Just remember the law that now enables airline pilots to be armed. Who would have thought that Schumer and Clinton voted for it? They did, but I'm not skilled enough using http://thomas.loc.gov/ to find the roll call vote. I can tell you it happened before April 14, 2003. The Federal Flight Deck Officers (FFDO) program was probably in a bill for the Transportation Security Administration which might be an amendment to a Homeland Security bill.
If the Brady bunch and Bloomberg is against it, I take what I can get now.
Maybe "more" safe would be appropriate. >:-}
Yeah ~ I checked your profile page and saw the Lone Star; my dad was raised in West Texas the turn of the (1900) century.
Yeah, but I don't want to get have another pass it now just to get something passed and fix it later kind of situation again.
