The Good Life At Gitmo

ON the military plane back from America's most fa mous terrorist holding pen, the in-flight film was "V for Vendetta," a screed that tries to justify terrorism. It was a fitting end to a surreal, military-sponsored trip.

The Pentagon seemed to be hoping to disarm its critics by showing them how well it cares for captured terrorists. The trip was more alarming than disarming. I spent several hours with Rear Adm. Harry B. Harris Jr., who heads the joint task force that houses and interrogates the detainees. (The military isn't allowed to call them "prisoners.")

Harris, a distinguished Navy veteran who was born in Japan and educated at Annapolis and Harvard, is a serious man trying to do a politically impossible job. I spoke with him at length, and with a dozen other officers and guards, and visited three different detention blocks.

The high-minded critics who complain about torture are wrong. We are far too soft on these guys - and, as a result, aren't getting the valuable intelligence we need to save American lives.

The politically correct regulations are unbelievable. Detainees are entitled to a full eight hours sleep and can't be woken up for interrogations. They enjoy three meals and five prayers per day, without interruption. They are entitled to a minimum of two hours of outdoor recreation per day.

From your last link on fund raising plea...

"We're going to fight for the Democratic vision on national security -- will you make a donation to help fund the plan?

They still don't have a vision, instead, they need more money to achieve that vision that they keep saying they have.

Never in the history of our country have we had an ex-President who has disgraced himself so thoroughly since the day he left office (not that he didn't disgrace himself while IN office....but that's a story in itself).

When his second term concluded, Billy-Bully threw aside all history, all protocol, all precedent, all graciousness and all deference which formerly guided the words and actions of former presidents.

Klintoon went right on the offensive, attacking his successor with trashing and heel-nipping, denigrating and smearing our country both here and on foreign soil, plus openly siding with the UN and other enemies of our nation in countless subtle and not-so-subtle ways.

The man is a total embarassment and a stain on this land which has been blessed over the centuries with noble leaders such as Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln and Reagan. Did any of them go crazy with egoism and bitterness after they retired from office?

Bubba decided early on to break the voluntary constrictions guiding the words and deeds former presidents. It was his choice to do so. The Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy had nothing to do with it.

Clinton has been dangerously pushing the edge regularly for the past six years. The Wallace interview may prove that he pushed a bridge too far. Whether his on-air explosion was planned or not, it didn't play in Peoria.....and, I suspect, not even in the media and other areas of public opinion.

I know very well that this twisted "man" has the ability to come back from the dead like Dracula. However, I have this intuition that after this past weekend things will NEVER be the same for him (as well as Her Heinous by extension).

IMO, the fallout from the interview will have vigorous (albeit pasty) legs and will keep on walkin'.

"Bush lying about WMD is so debunked by now, no one but moonbats try to keep it up...."

I wish I could believe that, but the truth is that the lie spread so far, that no amount of debunking short of releasing Sarin over baghdad will convince a lot of folks that Libs/Dems LIED....

I'm sorry I don't. :( I just know that the intellgence industry and military budgets were gutted big time during the 90s. Friends in the militiary on Carriers told me so many scary stories how they would run out of parts that were essential because the Navy didn't have the budget to replace the parts, and crews had to literally jury-rig parts to keep things like CATAPAULTS working! It's a miricle that THOUSANDS of military personnel didn't die in the 90s from shortages of replacement parts. And the intelligence guys who left in the 90s when they got fed up always talk about how they couldn't even pay a guy a couple hundred bucks for information that could lead to big arrests. I don't know if any budget sheets were ever released but I've never heard anyone actually argue that the DEEP budget cuts took place. It would be a foolish thing if any liberal said it never happened.

Yes and the SuperDome is oh so necessary for the operation of New Orleans. How many millions were spent on that stadium when it could have rebuilt all the houses destroyed in the 9th ward and the other houses that were lived in by uninsured residents? Pathetic misuse of federal funds given to Louisiana Liberats to rebuild. It's disgusting.

I know....four years of constantly repeating a lie makes it difficult.

I just don't fool with idiots that believe it anymore.

I went on a thread last week about the Superdome...and got roundly excoriated by some LA freepers for saying what you said.

Their opinion is that the Superdome provides jobs for people...and we shouldn't be unhappy about providing jobs..

Anyway...I don't go there...but, I agree, because I had heard that the NFL was supposed to kick in on paying the repairs...and the OWNER should have also..

But, oh well....

FLASHBACK (from article in 2004 about the Clintonistas nearly forgetting about Bin Laden and Al Qaeda when they submitted their final national security report to Congress in Dec. 2000):

"The final policy paper on national security that President Clinton submitted to Congress — 45,000 words long — makes no mention of al Qaeda and refers to Osama bin Laden by name just four times. The scarce references to bin Laden and his terror network undercut claims by former White House terrorism analyst Richard A. Clarke that the Clinton administration considered al Qaeda an "urgent" threat, while President Bush's national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, "ignored" it. The Clinton document, titled "A National Security Strategy for a Global Age," is dated December 2000 and is the final official assessment of national security policy and strategy by the Clinton team. The document is publicly available, though no U.S. media outlets have examined it in the context of Mr. Clarke's testimony and new book."
