Of all the peaceful things to do, he was arrested for this? Yes, because it was disturbing the Mohammedan faithful. Church bells and shofars are forbidden in the vicinity of a mosque.

The sound of the shofar is hauntingly beautiful, raising the hair on your neck, and sending chills down your spine. It's no wonder that the ancient Jews were in awe of it. I certainly am.

...the police had apparently been called by an Arab woman who said the sound of the ram's horn disturbed her childrenMy understanding is that the sound of the shofar transmits confusion into the demonic underworld.

""How ironic. The loud Arab weddings and nightly prayers by the muazzin [over a powerful loudspeaker] at 4:30 AM disturb our sleep every night."
Ironic indeed!

Maybe it binds the souls of the righteous -- at least for the period of the resonance of the horn, and by that binding blinds the shadows -- for the brief tekiah the curtains seperate and the divine light blows in.

Its a sorry shame that an observant Jew gets manhandled for blowing a Shofar at Rosh Hashana by a gaggle of cops, but the muezzin can howl like a banshee whenever, regardless of Jewish people praying at the Western Wall, or Christians having their worship! Years ago, when I visited Israel, our group went to the Garden Tomb site (the Protestant one, I was Protestant at the time)....a wonderful setting right next to the Jordanian bus station with all the noise, smells, etc. We were allowed to visit the Western Wall and I was paying my respects when the ROP's muezzin suddenly let loose and I couldn't hear myself think!
