Flood Made Britain An Island 'In 24 Hours'

Flood made Britain into an island 'in 24 hours'

By Tim Hall

(Filed: 25/09/2006)

Britain may have become an island after a Biblical-style flood split it from Europe in less than 24 hours, according to new geological research.

The flood would have taken place between 400,000 and 200,000 years ago, sweeping away hills between Britain and what is now France.

The theory could rewrite British prehistory, as current text-books teach that Britain - once a peninsula of continental Europe - split from the great land mass after a long process of erosion and rises in sea levels.

However, surveys of the Channel bed using new sonar techniques have revealed the remains of a huge valley, running south-west from the Strait of Dover.

The sonar survey, led by Sanjeev Gupta, from Imperial College, London, uncovered deep bowls, scour marks and piles of rubble on the sea bed that may have been caused by a torrent of water.

Dr Gupta said in a paper published at an academic conference: "In places, this valley is more than seven miles wide and 170 ft deep, with vertical sides. Its nearest geological parallels are found not on Earth but in the monumental flood terrains of the planet Mars.

"This suggests the valley was created by a catastrophic flood following the breaching of the Dover Strait and the sudden release of water from a giant lake to the north."

According to Dr Gupta's theory, France and Britain would have been linked by a high ridge of chalk hills, running roughly between Dover and Calais. To the north would have been a freshwater lake, fed by rivers, and deepened over thousands of years.

The lake, hundreds of feet above sea level, finally overflowed the chalk ridge and swept down towards the Atlantic. The water washed away the soft chalk hills and left the British Isles a separate land mass.

Dr Gupta's work is outlined in his book Homo Britannicus: the Incredible Story of Human Life in Britain, to be published next week.

So the short & skinny is: global warming is true?

Look up the name Peleg in Genesis. It means “division”. Science can speculate why stuff happens, but I believe the poles shifted violently, or maybe an impact from space, but it’s hard to imagine Mammoths dieing standing up with fresh flowers in their stomachs unless it happened very quickly. Try to imagine continents drifting at hundreds of miles an hour.

I also believe the Grand Canyon was formed quickly by a draining lake that left us the Salt Flats. It was humorous to read how puzzled the scientists were after Mt St Helens when they discovered canyons that were eroded by melting ice and drained lakes that they claimed would have taken millions of years to form by rain and weather.

This stuff is fun to read, but hang around awhile and they will change it. It mostly proves they KNOW nothing, but speculate on everything.

All kinds of oceanic fossils in Oklahoma and Nebraska...evidence of a tremendous flood? Naw. /sarcasm

It was part of an ocean during the Cretaceous period of the Mezozoic era.

Geomorphologists call the braiding “anastomosis” (not to be confused with the medical term). It is strong evidence of flood or flashiness (large variation in discharge) in streams. The pattern is common in rivers whose source freezes in the winter and then releases it water in a well defined event. Arctic rivers and those feed by glaciers often show this type of pattern where (primarily) gravels are redistributed (smaller material is washed away). The Scablands of eastern Washington (as seen the satellite photos someone posted earlier) are off the scale examples of these. First identified by a fellow named J Harlan Bretz as evidence of flooding, he was laughed off because nobody believed you could have a flood that big, and he was unable to provide a mechanism for it. It was only after aerial photographs became available and evidence from ancient lake shores in Montana indicated he was right all along.

“I also believe the Grand Canyon was formed quickly by a draining lake that left us the Salt Flats.”

Why would the water drain out and leave the salt behind? Salt is formed as an evaporate.

“It was humorous to read how puzzled the scientists were after Mt St Helens when they discovered canyons that were eroded by melting ice and drained lakes that they claimed would have taken millions of years to form by rain and weather.”

Can you point me in the direction of information like this? (From someone reputable, of course.)

If the lake drained to about half it's normal depth and then was exposed to a hot dry period, it could leave the deposits behind. Anyway, if you look at an aerial map of Utah, Nevada, California, etc, you can see a basin that could have uplifted and drained very quickly and carved out the Grand Canyon in a short period. If the water was land locked after that, it could have just evaporated over the years.

As far as the Mt St Helens story, it was on Discovery TV awhile back and in a magazine( I think put out by Discovery channel) It was on a table in a doctors office.. They were going to follow some scientists for years that wanted to study the recovery of the area after the eruption. They were talking about years of study after such total destruction. The rivers were gone or re routed, lakes were dead, all wildlife was gone, no vegetation for them to eat. After 9 months, there were fish in the lake, elk and deer eating small green shoots coming out of the ashes, and recovery was well on its way. The government grants were barely used, and they were going to have to go home as their work was coming to an end. Nature had cleaned itself up and renewed itself. All the predictions, and I mean ALL, were wrong. Even the water Ph was almost back to normal in a year or so. I have to admit, the pictures they took when they first got there were pretty bleak, but it was totally different in about a year.

Go a source on that?

BTW, how big do you suppose a lake would need to be to eat through through a billion layers of solid rock?

Yet more evidence that the world was destroyed by a flood.

==The northern rim had to be high for the lake to be deep and hold a lot of water. Low rim = low water-holding capacity = not enough erosion. And a high rim would be difficult to submerge and erode, and it would be right there as a very prominent underwater feature somewhere in the North Sea.

You wouldn’t necessarily need a large land rim (or any at all as far as I can tell) as the lake was ice dammed by a massive ice sheet. And besides, even if there was a rim, depending on how thick, it could have easily broken under pressure from the melted ice that went on to form the North Sea. And don’t forget about all the erosion that would have taken place upstream of the original breach/spillway. This probably would have made any rim even more unstable.

Example:

It is noteworthy that not only did erosion occur in the spillway below the dam, but above the dam as well (Figure 2). In the approach channel above the spillway dam, valley sediment fill and the top layer of shale (Holmesville Shale) were removed to expose and erode the Fort Riley Limestone.

Evidence of Biblical style water catastrophes continue to pile up.

This one occurred before God created the Earth, according to the Bible.

As Chuckles points out, if the flood was massive enough, it wouldn’t take much time at all. Read the following carefully, the evidence for the rapid formation of the Grand Canyon is overwhelming.

No, it occured before God created the Earth, according to man. Big difference.
