Flood made Britain into an island 'in 24 hours'
By Tim Hall

Britain may have become an island after a Biblical-style flood split it from Europe in less than 24 hours, according to new geological research.
The flood would have taken place between 400,000 and 200,000 years ago, sweeping away hills between Britain and what is now France.
The theory could rewrite British prehistory, as current text-books teach that Britain - once a peninsula of continental Europe - split from the great land mass after a long process of erosion and rises in sea levels.
However, surveys of the Channel bed using new sonar techniques have revealed the remains of a huge valley, running south-west from the Strait of Dover.
The sonar survey, led by Sanjeev Gupta, from Imperial College, London, uncovered deep bowls, scour marks and piles of rubble on the sea bed that may have been caused by a torrent of water.
Dr Gupta said in a paper published at an academic conference: "In places, this valley is more than seven miles wide and 170 ft deep, with vertical sides. Its nearest geological parallels are found not on Earth but in the monumental flood terrains of the planet Mars.
"This suggests the valley was created by a catastrophic flood following the breaching of the Dover Strait and the sudden release of water from a giant lake to the north."
According to Dr Gupta's theory, France and Britain would have been linked by a high ridge of chalk hills, running roughly between Dover and Calais. To the north would have been a freshwater lake, fed by rivers, and deepened over thousands of years.
The lake, hundreds of feet above sea level, finally overflowed the chalk ridge and swept down towards the Atlantic. The water washed away the soft chalk hills and left the British Isles a separate land mass.
Dr Gupta's work is outlined in his book Homo Britannicus: the Incredible Story of Human Life in Britain, to be published next week.
What in the world does that have to do whether plate tectonics is a real phenomenon or not? I'm sorry, but I simply don't cherry pick what science I'm going to "believe in" based upon whether my ideology concides with that of the field's founders. That's antithetical to the nature of science.
Besides, he wasn't the first, that was about 150 years earlier. :-D
You had me tricked for a minute until I read your name! :-D
Noah and his family survived. The other similar flood legends were passed on by oral tradition from Noah’s decedents. The Bible gives a good account of how they separated and roughly to where. You seem quite hostile toward the Bible. Once upon a time the great minds of the world were convinced that Nebuchadnezzar was a myth much like King Author, than ooops someone dug up the Ishtar Gate confirming his existence? Time and archeology keeps verifying the Bible’s history, sometimes with stunning detail. It makes me wonder if scientists with similar hostility when confronted with any evidence of a global flood simply dismiss it out of hand because “it couldn’t possibly be true”. When it comes to ancient history can one afford to discount anything out of hand? Now if you come back and tell me of scientists’/historians’ etc. firm commitment to pure objectivity your going to sound like today’s mainstream journalists, I don’t except their commitment at face value either.
Do they have Koranic support? Egyptian historical support? Chinese support?
Koranic…yes they use Genesis as well.
Egyptian…yes. The Book of the Dead. (also contains a story that’s a close match to the Biblical story of Moses) .
China ..yes. The Lolo, it uses the exact number and gender of people on the ark Gen 7:13.
Flood Legends from around the world
Can we say that what science tells us today of ancient history will be the same tomorrow? Of course not. You seem to have quite a bit of faith in what is "known" now. One could almost say you express religious zeal. Funny indeed.
Actually the first model government for Israel, had no king other than God. And God advised Israel strongly, against having a king. The men took counsel together. When there was a problem, families would send representatives to the council. So there is a Biblical model of a republic.
Whether or not the Bible mentions individual rights, our founding fathers certainly agreed that our rights emanated from God as a quick reading of the Declaration of Independence will amply demonstrate.
Kaneohe Ranch, Oahu, Hawaii reported 247 straight days with rain from August 27 1993 to April 30 1994
In 1953 Ketchikan, Alaska reported 101 straight days with rain.
I have no idea how much heat was released in either of those events either. But when you tell me it couldn't have rained on Noah for 40 days and nights, I recognize hot air when I see it.
Ok, who was first?
I think you are slandering people. Provide proof.
In my lifespan, I don't ever remember Creationists claiming DNA was the work of Satan. They have claimed that many preposterous claims by evolutionists about DNA were the work of Satan. Claims such as DNA proved evolution, or that DNA could have evolved naturally, or DNA
"Now---exactly what do you mean by a "second code". If you have any basis with any evidence, perhaps you can enlighten us. "

Big Flood.
That means that the Bible also predicted the Johnstown Flood.
Same evidence, method of proof and the same logic.
The yellow box is the feature I identified as a channel in my post 79 ...
... it is not the Lake Channel, obviously, but I'm pretty sure it is a channel of the same flood, well, two channels actually. The Google Earth view below looks downstream along this channel, with the Lake Channel visible in the background. Note that these are higher than the river - about 100 feet by the G.E. elevation indicator. Also, the dark areas are shadows of bluffs and gullies, not water. Just the whole layout indicates that this channel was due to the ( extremely ) elevated water level in the Snake River bed. You can see the isolated lenticular island, and the longer channel to the right. As to uplift, this flood is estimated at 18,000 years ago, so I don't think that's a consideration.
What are you doing here?
LOL. Sometimes I wonder why I am still here. This place has become some weird twilight dance of luddites on parade. But, hey, ya gotta laugh, right?
Actually, it can be very hard not to sometimes. :-)
How could you say such a thing? Who could forget the cow classics:
"The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence."
"In a storm, always keep your butt to the wind, otherwise the rain blows up your nose."
IDiots at the Discovery Institute, however,...
Hmmm... nope... they have no opinions of any real value.
That whole website is interesting. "KIdz Pages", baraminology, antitriclavianism, all sorts of good stuff
Some cartographer, but the guy who actually hammered out the first model of continental drift was Alfred Wegener.
Scripture doesn't say that. It says it rained 40 days and 40 nights. It doesn't say it never took any break or that it rained over the entire earth 40 days. It's understood that it rained on Noah and the Ark for 40 days.
Very few people attribute the flood waters all to rain. Most consider that God broke up the fountains of the great deep.
But I'll take back about the 40 days and nights only being on Noah, it does sound like it rained on the earth 40 days and night. But even still, I wouldn't interpret that to mean that it rained continuously everywhere 24 hours a day. In Louisiana we'd get rain 5 days in a row, and much of that could be a constant downpour, but it still took breaks, an hour here and there.
Gen 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
Megaflood 'made Island Britain'
Why did BBC just post this so late?
