Isn't there this taped interview where he admits, in his own voice, on his own, that he should have accepted OBL when the Sudenese government offered him up on any of the THREE times the deal came up? By golly, there is sucha tape. Which makes clinochio out to be the LIAR that he is. He is one of the two worst presidents this country has ever inflicted on itself. Wee all know who the other one is.
I think you are right...The wag the dog concerned primarily Bosnia, though the cruise missle that missed Bin Laden did also occur at this time I believe. The bottom line:
Clinton's perjury and sexual liasons with Monica not only distracted him BUT it effectively ruined his chances for leadership on fighting terrorism..even if that was his intent (which I don't believe it was) He only talked about terrorism when he was in trouble with his exploits.
ALSO...remember that Bill Clinton is most passionate when he is lying (think of "I never had sex with that woman!") He seemed like he was telling the truth then (which he wasn't) and seemed like he was lying when he "admitted" his actions. With that in mind, I believe his passionate attack on Chris Wallace demonstrates that he was lying about his actions!
How smart is it for the "smartest politician in the world" to remind people of his failed Presidency, Monica Lewinsky, his lying in front of the cameras, wagging the dog, and wagging his finger?
He calculated that his strong, assertive, take no s**t attacks on Chris Wallace would rally his base for Hillary and his legacy. He didn't count on waking up the rest of the country and reminding them of the 90's and why it is so important to get rid of these people once and for all..
..and listened to all his 'catch phrases' and obfuscating verbiage....
...it was crystal clear to me this man will end up in a looney bin.....sooner rather than later.
Clinton is full of it and when his finger waves around like that it should be wearing a condom.
But Clinton states he was prevented from doing the "more " he wanted because he got political resistant I.E. it would cost him personal political capital (poll numbers)
So it boil down to the Clinton acknowledges that a aggressive approach was call for (like Bush is doing) but it cost political capital (poll numbers... like it is costing Bush)...
So Billy the dif is Bush is will to take the political hit to do what right, poll be damed, that Bill would not
I'm confident you know this issue is a red flag being waved at many bulls.
"Wag the Dog arose because of the fact that Clinton bombed the aspirin factory the night before scheduled impeachment vote. The other bombing was in response Iraq's attempt on Geo. H.W. Bush's life when B41 was in Kuwait for a victory lap."
This Quote from magoo70804 (#17) sums it up pretty well, but in the interests of history, there is more.
Clinton took the WH Press Corps on a junket to Sea Island or some such place on the night of the "Aspirin Factory" and "Terror Training Camp" bombings. For amusement, the corps was treated with a screening of "Wag the Dog" which was just out or about to come out. During the feature, the corps was called together for a quick press conference which announced the bombings.
To me, the implication was that, to preclude the press from asserting this incident as a "Wag the Dog" scenario and pooh-pooh it as a cheap trick, Clinton was able to argue, he wouldn't have been so stupid as to believe the press would fall for this. IMHO, they drank this koolaid.
In my mind's eye, I can easily imagine somebody asking, "Do you think we'd pull something like this while you were watching this movie?"
Clinton links these ideas because he dreamed them up or was present when they were, I speculate.
If some one else has remembered this, forgive me. I couldn't spare the time to check all the other posts.
