The only problem with these nutcases is that for them, an "American Hiroshima" would equal "Pearl Harbor II" and "awaken a sleeping giant and fill it with a terrible resolve".

No, sadly, I don't think it would. 50% of Americans would point their fingers at the Bush Administration and ask for their ouster. A percentage of that percentage would actually believe that 'Bush did it'. We are not the same Nation with the same resolve of 50 years ago. More heroism is going to be required of fewer people.

I think the enemy is perfectly aware of the divide in the country. Chavez showed that at the UN. They will hit when they know they can splinter us even more. When is that? I don't know.

"We are not the same Nation with the same resolve of 50 years ago."

Bingo!!!

And, given current immigration trends in 10-20 years time we'll (if there is still a "we") be so devided that the then president won't be able to get a consensus from the people to govern or to go to war. You can then kiss America good bye.

Disagree. Another incident will put those folks in the "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" conundrum.

Pearl Harbor I - at least the enemy made it simple for us by wearing uniforms, belonging to a single Nation-State and flying aircraft marked with easy to identify symbols.

Not so simple today with Stateless groups attacking at will and in different areas.

The States that fund the killers, however, those are a bit easier to find.
