Danforth and Christie Whitman have found each other. She, I can understand, but Danforth pretends to be a minister and he spews such hatred and lies at the religious beliefs of others?

Danforth portends to be a minister.

That's precisely why I am so damn mad.

What's the news on Whitman nowadays? I heard Larry King allude to her troubles, but McGreevy didn't take the bait.

I gather that he is part of the liberal wing of the Episcopal Church.  If you follow the religious threads on FR you'll know what that entails, particularly the very basic splits in the last few years.  You know, things like "god is optional" (the lower case "g" is not accidental).

I went through this same type of "liberalization" of a Christian church in my youth when my family briefly attended the Congregational Church in our town.  My sister asked the pastor there about the concept of the Trinity, which she was having problems with.  His reply was "don't worry, god is only a myth, anyway."  We went back to the Baptists soon thereafter.  That Congregational pastor later went on to head the World Council of Churches and oversaw giving church money to the Communist rebels in Angola.  We weren't surprised to learn that little bit of information.
