KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AFP) - Afghan police said they had killed 25 Taliban in a fierce battle in southern Afghanistan.
The fighting erupted in Uruzgan province after a band of rebels attacked a police post in the Chora district, General Mohammad Qasem -- the provincial police commander -- said Friday.
A policeman was killed and five wounded in the attack.
Police reinforcements were brought in, sparking renewed clashes. "During the fighting 25 Taliban were killed," Qasem said by telephone.
Around 1,400 Dutch soldiers are based in Uruzgan, one of six provinces in southern Afghanistan that came under the command of a NATO-led force on July 31.
The move has thrust the alliance into its fiercest combat yet as it takes on determined Taliban and other insurgents who have surprised many with their increasing capacity.

The insurgents continue to die.
How many of Taliban are there? We keep killing 25-50 every other day and they still creep up by the 100's.
I think this is what's known as a target rich enviroment.
