"I just hope blacks that now see the light and are voting republican (perhaps for the first time) are voting for Steele because he is the better candidate - and not because he is the black candidate."

Lets be real, and accept half a loaf.

The Murphys are extremely well respected (and well off) family - the original patriarch (as far back as you can find)fought for the Union and started the Afro American newspaper which exists today.

This will carry some weight.

Real Clear Politics had this race as Leans Democrat but has now reclassified it as Toss Up. The reason? New poll post-primary shows STEELE UP 1 POINT OVER CARDIN. Underlying dynamics show a third of Maryland blacks supporting Steele even though only 15% of them are supporting the Republican governor.

I suspect Steele can win if he holds that percentage of the black vote. He's such a cool candidate (especially compared to the boring and hopelessly liberal Cardin) that maybe he will even increase it.

Ruh roh, The NAACP ain't going to like this!

What's funny is the son of Kwesi MFume (former head of the NAALCP) was one of the rats that endorsed steele.

You're right...after posting that comment I thought, "Make the first few republican votes easy for black democrats...then the rest will come natural".

Doesn't the Fugitive Slave Act require Steele to send these voters back to the Democrats?

I still cannot believe that given the independance and intelligence of most "african" americans, that they could EVER vote Democrat. Just looking back to the Act of 1964 and seeing who in the Dem party opposed voting rights for them (Al Gore Sr., R. Byrd....etc...) I am bewildered that it still is such a huge majority voting for these numbskulls.

this of course effects much more than steele's race in Maryland...if blacks don't show up in large percentages to vote for Ben Cardin, they are also not showing up to vote AGAINST Gov Ehrlich. This doesn't bode well for O'malley....

This race has not gotten nasty yet, but it will. Maryland Democrats are probably second only to New Jersey Democrats in the amount of sleaze and garbage they will throw into a campaign. They have also stolen elections. The more Republicans become competitive in Maryland, the nastier and lower the Democrats go to hang on to their power. I hope Mr. Steele is ready for the onslaught, because it is surely coming.

which party invented the KKK

Warning, quibblers will dispute this.
It would be better to state that the KKK was the terrorist wing of the Democratic party from the end of reconstruction untill circa 1970.
The founders of the KKK claimed they were only creating a social club, some of them actually quit in disgust over the turn the "club" took within their lifetimes. It would be much better to force the Democrats to explain their association with this group after their murderous proclivities were well documented.

The Dems would reply that the racist KKK Democrats are now Republicans.

Do you have a counterargument for that?

Best Political News I've heard today. I hope this can be the beginning of Black America waking up and realizing that the Democratic Party has taken their votes for granted every since FDR.

Fingers crossed and prayers.

Considering neither one of us can vote for him, I guess that's all we've got. (LOL)

The Republicans sure bid low for their votes. Show me where Republicans have changed their agenda to forward the goals of the KKK.
