Actions have consequences.
The government, will simply raise taxes to cover the shortfall instead of sueing the unions out of business.
A mother of a friend of mine used to work for the DPS, and the stories she told would curl your hair. Good riddance, I say.
Sue the teachers' Union for the losses. It's the "American Way"
Well there seemed to have been around 25,000 mature adults in Detroit prior to the strike. I wonder what took them so long to figure the Detroit schools were organized madness??
BTW, only about 20 percent of Detroit's freshmen graduate.
If ever I've heard a justification for ending the public school system....
Imagine what they would say if only 20 percent of the homeschoolers graduated.
this reflects a parenting problem, also.
I am in the Detroit area(Lincoln Park)......here is my understanding from local news reports: State aid is based on X amount of $ per student enrolled on a certain day ......fewer students=less $ ........sounds like they did it to themselves
the consequences of 50 years of liberalism are devastating. definition of insanity = continuing to do something that has proven not to work.
Detroit has become Cuba.
But all the teachers and all the administrators and all the coaches will continue to be paid and they will continue to complain about not making enough money.

Of course the teacher union head denies they bear any responsibility at all.....
Maybe this kind of sudden "shock treatment" which will require dramatic layoffs could be an opportunity for reform, but I seriously doubt it. Since the very people deciding about the layoffs will be a big part of the problem, the worst hacks and deadwood will be kept on, administrators with fat salaries, etc.
Detroit as a whole seems to be in terminal decline, and this is just one more symptom of the disaster.
The very idea that teachers have a "right" to strike is insanity....
Should all be summarily fired.
How ironic that we can't post from a site called "freep."
The parents left the schools?? hahaha, there is nothing like capitalism. You provide the service. We pay for it. If we don't like it, we take our business elsewhere. You suffer.
I like it. Simple but so straight-forward.
