The space journalist who wrote this needs to credit RCH and get a more pro-space attitude.

"Other photographs of the Face taken more recently show that from different angles, it does not look much like a face"

Kind of reminds me of what Babs starts out like in the morning, and what the right angle can do to an image.....

It's kind of a yarddang. Those are stone shapes that form in the desert from wind erosion. Egypt has billions of them and the Sphinx may have started out as a yarddang.

Interesting but not as good as some of the pictures which have been coming back since around 98:
That's here:

And it's definitely a human face with some sort of a helmet on. Anybody who looks at that and sees a natural rock formation is in denial.

Human (and primate) intelligence is based on pattern recognition, and facial recognition skills are particularly hyper-developed. The face is not on Mars, but in our heads.

............although they knew it was just an illusion, the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory issued this caption: "The speckled appearance of the image is due to missing data, called bit errors, caused by problems in transmission of the photographic data from Mars to Earth. Bit errors comprise part of one of the 'eyes' and 'nostrils' on the eroded rock that resembles a human face near the center of the image. Shadows in the rock formation give the illusion of a nose and mouth. Planetary geologists attribute the origin of the formation to purely natural processes."
Hahahahahahahaahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Logical and truthful provisions have NEVER stopped dishonest liars or psychotics from trying to either profit or garner some notoriety or power from proposing wacky theories that go against common sence. Likewise, there are enough stupid, unintelligent people that will believe them. This phenomenon can be witnessed here at FreeRepublic with the continual lunacy of the IDiac/Creationoid numbskulls.

Yep, kind of impressive what the poor makeup people have to work with every morning and what they end up with isn't it?

To me, what remains interesting is the apparent regularity or symmetry of the perimeter of this formation...
