Chicago will pay a $33,000 fine for illegally tearing up Meigs Field airport without proper notification. And the city will have to repay $1 million of airport funds that Mayor Richard M. Daley illegally diverted from O'Hare and Midway airports to give to the destruction contractors.

But Mayor Daley really cares about people!! He sent in a D9 with a scarifier to plow up the runway in the middle of the night at Meigs. That will teach the evil FAA to mess with him when he wants to make a park!

If this were the mayor of any other city in the US, he would be sitting in jail now..........but not Chicago...........what a joke.

Chump change. Daley laughs, his wife gets the park she wanted, and his buddies the concession contracts.

The really sick part is that Daley breaks the law and the taxpayers pay the fine while he skips free. He should be locked up.

Yes, but Shee-Ka-Go is run by Democrats who care (tm) so deeply for others the feds will overlook this one instance of mayoral independence.:-)

Only a $33K fine?

Isn't that Daley's petty cash?

$33,000?

Daley should be in prison for this.

Although, it sounds like he may be soon anyhow, for other things.

A couple of things, first the F.A.A. should investigate then possible bring charges against Daley. If you don't think he and his buddys got some kickbacks in this deal then you are very naieve.
Second any fines and or jail time should be so severe it sets an example to others that undermine airports to further their own interests.

Remember he plowed the airport because of "security concerns" after 9-11. As if any plane flying into MDW or ORD could not easily divert off the flight path and run into a building!

First, the Mayor is in a lot of trouble with various scandels involving contributions and bribes for city contracts and jobs. The U.S. Attorney is clearly working up the food chain, until he can indict Mayor Daley, since he already got former Gov. Ryan convicted and is working on the current Governor.

Second, the Mayor's wife is a park nut and thinks there isn't enough open space. The problem is that the City can't take care of the parks that it already has, and the new one's are problem-plagued. Millenium Park was supposed to open in 2001, for the new millenium. It opened in 2004, horribly over budget, with poor construction in the underground garage, and the garage isn't generating enough money to pay the bonds for park constructions.

Some corporations have moved their corporate fleets to suburban airports, because MDW and ORD are too crowded. I forgot who, but some Fortune 500 company decided against relocating to the Loop, because of the closing of Meigs. They had clients that would fly in for meetings, and MDW was too inconvenient.

I am shocked that they did not want to locate near Mrs Daleys beeyoutiful new park. :oD

<< A couple of things, first the F.A.A. should investigate then possible bring charges against Daley. >>

What a joke.

The FAA, like every other feral-gummint department, secretariat and agency, has been since its creation and always will be, top-to-bottom stacked with mobbed-up feral-gummint-dole-recipient-unionized and otherwise deservedly unemployed activist "Democrats" and will "investigate" and "bring charges against" one of its gangster own about as fast as the recidivist, treasonous, lying, looting, thieving, mass-murdering, co-serial-rapist Cli'tons will lift the cutlery on the way out the once-white-house door.

Why do you think gutless "Democrat" gangsters, like Daley, (like the Cli'tons) act as if with impunity?

There are also $500K in legal fees the taxpayers will have to pay.

About thirty years ago I live across the street from Lincoln park zoo for three months. Used to watch the masses burn chicken each weekend. I'm not talking over cooked, I'm talking crispy on fire burnt.
Apartment on the 8th floor overlooking activity in ark, used to watch muggings and such.
Great fun while cops would look the other way as they didn't want to get involved.

That's exactly how it worked here, with former mayor/crook Bill Campbell of Atlanta. It took several years to work up the chain of command, but Campbell is currently sitting in Federal prison.
