The Democratic gubernatorial candidate elicits an enthusiastic response at a workers' union gathering today in Buena Park as he seeks members' help in his campaign.
But those were not average voters whistling and clapping their hands in support. They were shop stewards for United Food and Commercial Workers Local 324 in Buena Park the type of union folks who will be walking door-to-door and manning phone banks on Angelides' behalf.
Datamar's poll conducted last week showed him trailing the incumbent Schwarzenegger by 23 percentage points. The Rasmussen poll the week before showed him down by 8 points. Three previous polls showed him down by 5 percentage points, 13 percentage points, and 8 percentage points.
Union representative Jack Butler of Garden Grove said he was confident that, with union help, Angelides could close the gap.
"We're just beginning to mobilize," Butler said. "We've shown that if we mobilize, we can win. We showed that last November, when we defeated the governor's four propositions."

Kerry appeared with Angelides in a half-empty auditorium, where about 75 people waving campaign signs heard the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee criticize Republican policies in Washington and California.
Two dorks.
Big time Dorks
For the last time......I am NOT Richard Belzer!
"Many of you are well enough off that the tax cuts may have helped you. We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."
(Quoting Hillary)
There's a horrible image.
LOL ... you're right!
Yes, this Communist included the self admitted TRAITOR kerry at his campaign event.
"Now...now...hold on there. Gray Davis' dork quotient was much higher than mine."
Gray Davis was a bronzed surf god compared to this pipsqueak. ;)
"Angelides' only hope is tht the unions can turn out voters and conservatives will stay home."
I think his only hope is that the dead will rise to vote again... He IS a dummiecrat after all.
Every dollar that Angelides plucks out of the pockets of union supporters and every minute that union members spend helping the Angelides campaign can't be used to support other liberal candidates that have a reasonable chance to get elected if they had the war chest and the network.
Angelides is the secret weapon that California's conservatives hoped for. A liberal pit into which time and money of is poured with no hope of a return on the investment. A terrestrial dark hole, sucking the political energy and capital out of California unions.
"Now listen and listen good. When I'm Governor, I'm going to tax your a$$es off!"
That picture reminds me of John Kerry.
And .. the dems are always pointing their finger at the public; like we're some disruptive child.
If looks can kill, they're going to kill his candidacy.
