Bush, McCain reach agreement on tribunal laws

President Bush and Sen. John McCain have reached an agreement on legislation covering tribunals for enemy combatant suspects, NBC News reported Thursday.

Details on the deal were not immediately available.

The compromise comes amid a stalemate that has divided the House and Senate on the treatment of detainees. The two sides remained at odds this week over how to adhere to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and — simultaneously — give the CIA wide leeway to conduct interrogations.

I am disgusted

Any capitulation will be seen as a cave-in by some. The way this happened is at fault. SCOTUS is responsible, as I see it. You can't use common article three for terrorist interrogations. you just can't.

And there are few ways to modify it, or explain it with any degree of usefulness to a interrogator without being subjected to a load of international and domestic crappola.

"Of course he did. If this is a face-saving "deal", then he will be strutting, even though Pres. Bush may very well have gotten the better of him and his co-weasels."

You could be right....Rush says Dubya will never cave on this...

BINGO. He's gracious even while being unfairly attacked by everyone.

That is so true. The sad thing is that his gracious words are normally not heard, just the screeching of the Dems. It's sickening.

The press is like a pack of wolves, feeding the egos of these fools -- and I do mean Hugo, the Iranian, AND Lindsey Graham.

Graham is taking a beating from his constituents and the GOP base. Maverick McCain is used to this kind of treatment but Graham does not strike me as strong.

Graham could be "happy" that the situation he created has been resolved to get him out of the hotseat.

President Bush has repeated said that he does not negotiate with himself.

He stated his position, sent down an amendment, and the Senators will take it or leave it. If there is an agreement, and that is a BIG 'IF', then the only possible conclusion is that the Senate went along with Bush, and not the other way around.

Bush really doesn't have to be heard too much these days, he's already been reelected but he has to come to the aid of these RINOs because they have a R by their names.

Of course he won't. President Bush has owned this issue since September 11, 2001. McCain, Graham, et. al., are only looking out for themselves.

Beyond sickening. Just once, I would like a member of the press to acknowledge that low approval ratings are directly linked to the scathing media coverage given to POTUS, 24/7.

Ditto for war in Iraq.

You gotta hand it to the president who throws a life preserver to the guys who thwart him at every opportunity. Sort of like thanking the thug for punching you in the gut in the street fight. Turning the other cheek as it were.

Yes, Graham is a wussy who likes to hear himself talk.

What I don't get is Sen. Warner who ususally backs the WH on stuff like this.
