HP CEO Allowed 'Sting' of Reporter
The Washington Post (excerpt) ^ | September 21, 2006 | Ellen Nakashima and Yuki Noguchi

Excerpt -

Hewlett-Packard Co. chief executive Mark V. Hurd approved an elaborate "sting" operation on a reporter in February in an attempt to plug leaks to the media, according to an e-mail message sent by HP Chairman Patricia C. Dunn.

The document, one of more than two dozen e-mails obtained by The Washington Post, for the first time links Hurd to an internal investigation of media leaks that has led to criminal probes and will be the subject of a congressional hearing next week.

This soap opera is absolutely hilarious. H-P is leaking like a cheap diaper, and they look like the biggest bunch of bozos in the industry. Some of these morons are going to prison.

Please explain to me what law is being broken here? I did not realize anyone had a legal obligation to talk to the Junk Media.

I'm sorry to see that Hurd got caught up in this mess, the comapny was actually making a pretty decent turnaround under his leadership since the reign of Carly was terminated.

Please explain to me what law is being broken here?

For starters - identity theft, fraud, conspiracy, misuse of Social Security Numbers, planting spyware (keystroke loggers, according to one report), etc.

I haven't seen any quality reporting on just what it was that HP was trying to protect/hide. Am I missing something?

Here is the CNET report that sent H-P on their mole hunt -

January 23, 2006 - HP outlines long-term strategy

It contains top-secret quotes like - "By the time the lectures were done at 10 p.m., we were pooped and went to bed."
