Obama urges challenge to Bush policy

WASHINGTON - Democratic Sen. Barack Obama on Wednesday called the view that President Bush has been perfect in fighting terrorism an illusion and urged Democrats to challenge the Bush administration's policies.

"On the terrorism front, I'm happy to have that debate," the first-term Illinois senator said following a speech on energy at Georgetown University. "The notion that the president has led a flawless policy on terrorism is an illusion."

Obama, mentioned as a possible 2008 presidential candidate, said the nation is involved in "a war in Iraq that has vastly expanded the number of terrorist recruits, a deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and Osama bin Laden has not been caught. We should not shy away from that debate."

Democrats have opposed Bush administration anti-terrorist measures such as the warrantless wiretapping program and proposals to allow aggressive interrogation of prisoners.

Obama questioned why the terrorism debate should become more intense around elections.

In this politically charged atmosphere, Republicans and Democrats have clashed over Bush's Iraq war policy and his efforts to combat terrorism. Republicans have argued Democrats are weak on defense, seeking to exploit their advantage with voters on the issue.

Several GOP lawmakers and members of Bush's Cabinet have suggested Democrats are aiding the terrorists and behaving like Nazi appeasers.

Democrats have countered that the rhetoric smacks of the McCarthyism of the 1950s.

"But we don't always pick our fights, especially when the president has the bully pulpit," he said.

His talk was sponsored by the liberal political group Moveon.org.

Tracy Schmitt, spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, responding to Obama's comments, argued that his Democratic Party's "opposition to the tools imperative to the war on terror illustrates a startling lack of understanding about how to keep America safe."

What's really funny is seeing all of the
lakefront liberals in Chicago just
fawning over this guy. Only by his skin color.

He can't form a coherent sentence.

I mean the guy is a dolt!

But he's black so he must be golden.
He's what the plantation liberals want.

Congress in many ways is more harmful to the tradional way of life in this country than any terrorist could ever be. In the beginning, they were honorable people who firmly believed in the common good of the country. Today, every move they make is calculated to benefit themselves and they do not give a damn about the rest of us. They have control over too much money and power.
People like Bob Dole left office and could take his $40+ million campaign fund and set up a tax free organization with that money and never pay a dime in income tax. Our ex-governor had over $100 million in campaign funds when he was booted out of office and hasn't been seen since. These guys set up the tax code to benefit themselves and none of the ex-congressman are starving...why is that???

Obama, Osama. Same difference. The Democrats are the party of the enemy within.

True....and disturbing.
But it won't change, because most "citizens" now are to stupid to recognize what a freaking bunch of losers are running things in most States and in Washington....

It sure brings into focus why most "powers" decline after a couple of hundred years.....
They go soft, stupid, corrupt, incompetent, lose their balls and spines and commit societal suicide..

Too bad really....

Congress seems to attract the least among us -- especially to the Democrats..

Lots of Republicans aren't much to brag about either.

--

The best and brightest of America are creating wealth today, not squandering it as Congre$$ is prone to do.

The best and brightest of America are defending all of us in foreign lands, not imperiling us as many in Congre$$ appear hell-bent to do.

The best and brightest of America are willing to speak out for the truly disenfranchised and vulnerable and not just flap their gums like many democrats do today.

The Republicans as a whole are not without their own failings and divisons in their ranks that limit real progress to be made when it is so desperately needed on so many fronts.

In the end, it is up to an informed and educated electorate to keep them honest or at least try.

That some so readily forget who has sent them to Washington to do the peoples bidding unfortunately does not instill confidence in the system, but only feeds an undercurrent that will eventually erode and destroy the very foundation of what we all have taken for granted and so many have sacrificed all to maintain as a last bastion of liberty and justice for all.

Time for this old FaRt to catch a few ZZZZs

"...on Wednesday called the view that President Bush has been perfect in fighting terrorism an illusion..."

What an idiot. Empty suit is too complimentary.

Who on earth has said President Bush has been "perfect" in fighting terrorism? Obviously not true, but...

I would vociferously argue that "comparatively perfect" is provably true, when considering the liberal morons who offer as an alternative...nothing.

And I apologize to morons for making that comparison.

Just what we need in the Senate -- a drug-using, apostate muslim.

The worst part is that he is being groomed as Hillary's runnung mate.

Wait until America realizes Obama's father is muslim. And if he runs his free pass with the media will be over. This guy was a radical lefty in the IL State senate, and the GOP will destroy him.
