There was nothing at the gate preventing entry to MacDill

If the guards would have shot and killed the boys, Reuters would not have a favorable headline either. If the Toon was still President, the headline would have read "Youths apprehended after Police chase without incident at Military Base." or something like that.

The guards saw that the police were already in pursuit and they made the correct call. Otherwise, these boys would have been dead.

Yea, surprised look on face here, too.

Someone tries that at Nellis and I'd bet your axles are separated from the car in short order.

I just assumed that all bases did that same thing.

Hmmmmm........

Hmmm...

OPINION:3 am, traffic shut down to 1 lane and the guards on duty could have used deadly force in this incident.

I really don't know why they didn't Jet Jaguar.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Tampa police were tracking Davaraye Mungin and Damia Bowie, both 16, as they sped south on Dale Mabry Highway toward MacDill in a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus.

By the time police contacted armed guards at MacDill’s Dale Mabry gate, the vehicle was already on the base, according to Air Force 1st Lt. Larry van der Oord, a base spokesman."

OPINION: While checking the news I see there are a lot of articles on this incident

PR needs to change immediately.

The military needs to put pitbull type guards at the gate and a big military tank and...

Just to let the bad guys know that this was an isolated incident.

That is shocking. At a Naval Station I previously worked at, a high speed chase by a County Deputy Sheriff ended when the suspects tires where shot out as they went through the gate. (back in the mid-late 1980s).

The "facility" I work at now has soldiers in camo at the gate, vehicle/tire barriers... And their M-16s do in fact have magazines in them... Anyone seriously violating the 15 mph approach speed will almost certainly be shot first, questioned later, if ever.

I'd expect some serious backside chewing at MacDill...
