Poll: Harris within 9
USElectionAtlas ^

Posted on 09/20/2006 12:10:49 PM PDT by ghostmonkey

I haven't seen this poll mentioned on FR yet. (I have seen the SurveyUSA poll discussed.)

This poll has the race even tighter than SurveyUSA does. (9 Points).

http://www.uselectionatlas.org/POLLS/SENATE/2006/polls.php?action=indpoll&id=12200609180

Anyone know anything about the polling company??

Sam if you research Jim Gerlach you would realize he will win.

2002- Beat the Son of former Senator Wofford in a major upset.

2004- Beats Murphy handidly.

Is a well liked moderate who is battle tested.

Harris should run this photo on TV every night until the election. Nelson hanging out with "Jabba the Moore" would be enough to dump Nelson.

Jeb did not want to move to Snake Pit Washington, where you have to sell your soul.

Remember the reason many GOP Gov's like Hoeven do not run, is why go from CEO of a State to a pauper in the Senate?

I don't know why so many Freepers oppose her. She has been loyal to the extreme. All I can figure is they are desperate to say, "I told you so."

Poll has Jennings holding early lead over Buchanan
DUANE MARSTELLER
Herald Staff Writer
MANATEE - A divisive Republican primary and questions surrounding the winner's past business dealings have staked the Democratic candidate for the 13th Congressional District seat to an early lead, according to poll numbers released Monday.

Christine Jennings held a 46 percent to 38 percent edge over Vern Buchanan among 500 registered voters who were surveyed in the days after the Sept. 5 primary, according to the poll released by Jennings' campaign.

The remaining 16 percent said they were undecided whom they would pick in November to succeed Republican Katherine Harris, who gave up the seat to run for U.S. Senate. The poll's margin of error was 4.4 percentage points.

"This is yet another indication that Christine Jennings' vision for fiscal responsibility and independent leadership in Washington resonates with voters here in the 13th District," Jennings campaign manager Angela Barranco said of the poll, conducted by Democratic pollster Hamilton Beattie & Staff.

Buchanan's campaign downplayed the poll results.

"Consider the source," campaign spokeswoman Sally Tibbetts said.

But political observers said the poll is an encouraging sign for Democrats in the heavily Republican district.

"It shows what everybody's known for a long time: It's going to be a competitive race," said Susan MacManus, a political science professor at the University of South Florida. "It's really a shot in the arm for the Democrats."

The race is among several the national Democratic Party has targeted in hopes of winning control of Congress this year. But if Jennings is to parlay her early lead to an Election Day victory, she'll have to boost her name recognition, according to the poll.

Of those surveyed, 48 percent said they didn't recognize the Sarasota banker's name nor know enough about Jennings to have an opinion of her. For Buchanan, a Sarasota businessman, it was 27 percent.

"We have a lot of people to reach," said Kathy Vermazen, Jennings' press secretary. "We have a lot of work ahead of us, but it's not a surprising number nor an area of concern."

Registered Republicans accounted for 51 percent of those polled, registered Democrats 38 percent and independents 11 percent. Among independents, Jennings' edge was 48-30, the poll said.

Jennings had a 40 percent overall approval rating, compared to 36 percent for Buchanan. Another 34 percent said they had a somewhat or very unfavorable view of Buchanan, compared to 10 percent for Jennings.

The pollster said Buchanan's image was tarnished during a bruising primary campaign and questions about his court battle with developers of the Sarasota Ritz Carlton, who accused Buchanan of overstating his wealth. Buchanan fought against unsealing the court file but relented after beating four others in the primary.

"It's not a surprise after a tough primary," Tibbetts said of Buchanan's low approval rating. "Vern will win in the only poll that counts, the one on Election Day."

The Jennings poll also said Harris trailed Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson 50-41 in the Senate race, and Republican Charlie Crist was up 51-37 over Democrat Jim Davis in the governor's race.

We all know that Katherine Harris is beautiful. It won't impact the election one way or the other.

Truman never trailed Dewey by this large of margin. Hers would be a comeback on the scale of Gerald Ford in 1976, who went from 33 points down to losing by 2.

There are signs that she is regaining her footing. Any good news in FL is welcome.

I don't know anything about Carney, although he seems presentable in one of his ads. In any event, it seems he is getting big money now. As of last June 30, he had 300K cash on hand, and Sherwood had about 450K. We shall see.

Torie, any money Carney soon gets, will be matched by the RNC, which even the NY Times admits has a Huge money Advantage over the Dems.

By the way, Tammy Duckworth is still ducking debates with Roskam in IL. The word on the street is she is afraid of voter backlash from whites as as she is a Filipino. Why is she hiding this?

Nelson was on the floor today. I can't even tell you what he was talking about. I don't think he knew either. Katherine is within striking distance.

anyone know how i can send her campaign some money? I admire her tenacity and contempt of mainstream repubs who told her she could not win. She is a true leader.
