He said his grandfather's incarceration by the Germans had a profound effect on his mother; that because it was a painful memory, it was almost never discussed. "Some may find it odd that I have not probed deeply into the details of my family history, but it's a fact," Allen said in his statement. Speaking with The Times-Dispatch, Allen said the disclosure is "just an interesting nuance to my background." He added, "I still had a ham sandwich for lunch. And my mother made great pork chops."

Good heavens! It seems to me that somebody has way too much time on his/her hands.
If he gets that far, I believe Giuliani is the only Rep. that can take California. For every conservative who would stay home and not vote for Rudy, as many Independants and conservative democrats,(yes, there are such creatures) who also put the WOT as the #1 or 2 issue would more than fill their ranks. 55 electoral votes.
If and when Iran makes fissionable material, and with their terrorist connections, the WOT will be #1 on everyone's list.
Dear Shimmer128,
I'm not nominating it for joke of the year.
I just don't think it made him a shallow jerk by a stretch.
Either that, or I'm just a fellow shallow jerk.

I agree that the macaca incident was bumbled. But not this issue. I think he's knocked it out of the park.
But there are plenty of Freepers who've been trashing him for months. And my point remains that we're fighting the leftists, we're fighting the Main Stream Media (yes, we know they're the same team).
I just don't get having to fight "our" side. For 2008, sure. But not now.
That's all I'm sayin'.
Two words for Allen:
"Inner monologue"
Dear Corin Stormhands,
"I think he's knocked it out of the park."
I heartily agree. So do my wife and kids (we're all political junkies). We all watched the video and came away very impressed with how Mr. Allen answered the Klannette Jew-hating reporter.
"But there are plenty of Freepers who've been trashing him for months."
In fact, I was so impressed with how Sen. Allen answered this issue, that my disappointment with FReepers who perceived it differently has grown into suspicion that these are folks who just don't want a moderate conservative to be the Republican nominee for the presidency.
Sad.

A reference to Jewish roots and at the same time disrespecting Orthodox dietary restrictions is indicative of some sort of internal conflict, or at least confusion. It is certainly not a sign of brilliance on the campaign trail.
Of course, it is only mentioned (emphasized) here in order to bring clarity to the debate. Right?
What is the point?
they eat lots of pork chops and make a damn good Virginia ham
I used to love a good Smithfield ham. Had to give it up though, sad to say : - (
I guess I just don't see it the way you do. I just can't think one has to research grandparents as part of a career in public service, and I don't think Allen looks "stupid" for not knowing this fact. Offhand, I can't think of any information I know about any public figure's grandparents, other than Bill Clinton's, of course, since he played his dysfunctional childhood navel gazing card when it suited him.
As for campaign biographies being rewritten-- if your grandparent's religion is a key feature of your campaign biography, then you should rewrite it anyway! Did his biography affirmatively state that his grandfather was Christian? Or was it just not mentioned? I would hope it was the latter. To say he should rewrite his campaign biography to disclose a Jewish heritage would make me very uncomfortable, as I just don't see the relevance of his grandfather's faith.
As for precious campaign time down the drain, again I disagree; I think most voters are responding favorably to Allen on this exchange.
That is all well and good but I have never "trashed" Gov. Allen. I like the guy but that does not mean he can win the Presidency in 08.
I particularly liked his submission of a bill to make concealed carry permits valid across state lines. That shows real leadership.
But I seriously do believe he needs a handled well versed in dealing with the Treason Media's tricks. With someone like Tony Snow on his side he could still be a player in 08 w/o one No. I'll do the job for only 6 figures.
"Either that, or I'm just a fellow shallow jerk."
Yeah (nodding head) maybe that's it.
JUST JOKING!!
Hmmm, I suppose I COULD be wrong. :D

Hmmm, I suppose I COULD be wrong. :D You know what it was...i already thought he was a shallow jerk, so I just figured this was more evidence.
;-)
weird, i added something and it posted both ways. Oh well.
He is a JOOOOOOO? Oh No!!!!
so what?
Why do you think I'm spending all my time doing this? ;-)
I understand where you're coming from. He's far from perfect, and he'll tell you that.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on whether or not you've been "trashing" him. From where I sit, you ain't helped much.
But I get a bit het up about all this anyway.
IATZ
He certainly dresses like a Democrat.
Guiliani doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell. Next.
Same ole routine. You cannot beat something with nothing and so far there is no one who will beat this guy. He is smarter than any alternative and can debate rings around them. Guiliani has been campaigning for candidates all across the nation, including the South, and has been received with wild enthusiasm, a far different response than the one predicted by those who hate him here.
